If I was going GC it would be Visa/MC so they have choices. I don't get store specific anymore except with DGD, since TRUS & AG are godlike to a 7 yo.

I like to give a small giftcard to a place like Wawa or Sheetz. It can be used toward gas or lunch/coffee. If doing it on my own, I usually give $10 (for one child), but some years all the families that had children at the same bus stop pooled our money and we gave $5-10 per family.

I'm not sure that going from $10 per child to $5 per family would be considered "pooling" your money. Sounds more like "saving" your money.

I usually give the bus driver a $10 GC to the movies or a book store. It doesn't go super far, but I want them to treat themselves a little.

way too much money I would do a card with a $10.00 gift card from both kids

how old are your kids. if they are past elementary school don't do anything

You being a teacher some of your replies really astound me more than they normally would from someone not a teacher!!!
Why is $20 too much?!
Why would they only be offered a gift if they are driving elementary school kids?!
Middle and high school bus drivers work just as hard if not harder than elementary bus drivers. Can you please explain your reasoning?

Maybe your kids don't but I can assure you kids do.

My son's bus driver this year alone returned to his school before lunchtime to give him his lunch box he left on the bus.
She also stopped and waited for him to run to the other end of our road for him to catch the bus when he missed it on the first lap around.

She didn't have to do either and because she did she will get a thank you from us. Even if she didn't she would still get something.

I was at a moms night reverse happy hour and just asked the 30 moms there from our school and a neighboring school (elementary and middle) none of us give a gift to the bus driver. It sounds like a very nice thing to do, but doesn't seem like the norm where I'm from.

we don't do it here eaither

OP here:

This is the first year that we have had access to a school bus and having the school bus has allowed me to return to graduate school. My kids ride different buses. I'll do $20 in cash inside a card.

I'm sure it will br greatly appreciated,

My wife has been driving a school bus for over 30 years and I don't think she has ever received that much cash ($20) as a gift. She will get some gift cards for Starbucks, or Dairy Queen for like $10, or a box of chocolates, stuff like that. She doesn't get a lot of gifts, but she appreciates every one she gets! I think they deserve something for everything they do to get your kids to school safely!

Wow- who wrote that rule? My daughter is in high school and she and a group of friends were talking the other day about what to get for their teachers- the only difference now is that she pays for it on her own- one thing they decided on some type of star wars shirt for their physics teacher since he is a big star wars fan- so not only do they give gifts they put a lot of thought into what would be perfect for each teacher they want to give to. In junior high I thought gift giving was over but many of them still gave gifts- only now it was multiplied by how ever many they wanted to gift. And in grade school the bus driver got a gift but in middle school and high school I just drive her so no bus driver to buy for now.

You state things in such absolutes....maybe a better way to phrase things is in my area most people that I know do not give gifts once their kids are in middle school or high school.

Now in my area, we give gifts to the bus driver my kids have for the K-8 school. She has to be the best bus driver out there. She takes/took such good care of my kids. I give her a $10 gift card to Wawa which is the local convenience store, so she can get gas, coffee, lunch, a gallon of milk etc.

Now when DS18 started high school, he rarely had the same bus driver and many times he had to tell them where to go. In the afternoon they left early many times so I had to go pick him up. I was so glad when he started driving and no longer needed that bus route

I did not realize you were supposed to give a gift to the bus driver! oops!
