Bath toys, books, Baby Einstein DVD's.

Bigger gifts - wagon, outdoor ride on toys.....

Most 9 month olds can sit up and crawl, there are plenty of toys they can play with .

9 month olds are the easiest age to buy for, plenty of toys out there!

Could go with some bath toys.. or some music makers.. or a "walker" (forgot what those are called)

Saw this on Amazon.. dd's had something similar.. was called a symphony something or other.. forgot exactly, been too long ago, lol.. but they loved it.

Just had a trip down memory lane, lol.. wanted to find what they had, and was able to on Ebay... this thing was awesome, and both dd's absolutely loved it... but I see they came out with a new version of it that people are complaining about now... original one was the best.

Get the LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table - my parents bought one for my daughter when she was about that age (she was pulling herself up to standing by that point) and she loved it. She still plays with it at 2 years old.

Bath toys, shoes/slippers, stuffed animal/lovey (ask if she has a favorite and give a backup one?), board books, walker toy (like a shopping cart), rag dolls.

A cousin gave my DD a clothing hamper that was personalized with her name and balloons the colors of her bedroom.
It was small (around 3' high) and had a "face" top that let her put the clothing (and many other things) into it by herself.

A savings bond would be a nice gift, too. She's too young to know who gave her what, but saving for the future is thoughtful.

Go on the baby toy aisle and seek out toys intended for 6 months and up. For a 9 month old...12-15 months should be the highest you should go. If the toy is for 18 months and up skip it. Unless it is something that baby can truly grow into. But since a birthday will be coming up soon, it can wait.

The little intelli-tables are neat.

The "rollercoaster toys" with the wooden beads that go on twisty wire. (an inexpensive version is at Ikea)

Discovery boxes--those cubes with all the different things to explore on all the sides. Usually has a "rollercoaster" bead/wire activity on top.

Things that make noise.

"Walking" toys--(not a walker)--things that can be pushed.

I know everyone says books. If the child is not a firstborn, please do not buy books. I have shelves full from my last kid.

My daughter will spend forever banging blocks together. A nice shape sorter with simple shapes and no sounds will go over well.

Diapers are always on the wish list. You can never go wrong giving a baby a case of diapers. They can play with the box once it's empty.

My daughter is 14 months so it was only a few months ago that she was 9 mo. At that time she was just learning to walk. She LOVED this pink baby doll stroller that I found at Target. It isn't the small umbrella one they sell but the larger plastic one that is more stable and is made to help kids learn to walk. It really helped her learn to walk. She pushed that thing around for hours. She was also into board books and pretty much anything that played music.

Leapfrog MyPal Scout(Boy) Violet(Girl), I have a 17 month old and have mutliple friends with kids from a 2 months - 2 years, all who have the mypal have LOVED it! We even use it for nap/bed time it will play 2/5/10 minutes of night music and then cuts off. It also spells their name and says it as well. I cant say enough good things about it... it has grows with them it has different programing options.
There is also this new elephant toy that blows balls up in the air by Fisher price that is an awesome toy.
Cups(Spill proof), some parents start transition at that time and I know we went through about 6 different brands til we found one we liked, thankfully we had 3 to try out first but it gets expensive. (We ended loving the Tommy Tippie for the straw kind and the first years for the regular kind)
We also have this piano toy that is Little Tikes that is awesome. If they make the pinic basket toy by LeapFrog that isnt a girlie color it has been the best toy, she will role play with it or we go over shapes with it.

THIS!! Bought one for DD8 for Christmas when she was 9 months old. She loved it and played with the thing for several years. DD1 now has it and is her favorite toy. Gets hours of play each day!

I vote simple....read no batteries Board books, simple balls, stacking toys, a simple wooden 2 or 3 piece puzzle, a baby mirror, a first ride on toy. If the child has a lot of toys, maybe just one book and get diapers or a savings bond.

Clothes to grow into, toys for when she is older so they will be waiting for her....things like Crayola Color Wonder products. They only write on the special paper, not on walls or furniture

Savings bond. My oldest has always had way more toys than she needed. She actually had the most fun playing with non-toys at that age, spoons, cups, etc. My youngest will be 8 mos this Christmas. She'll get a couple of small toys/books and several bonds from us. She won't know the difference at this age and it's a better investment than more plastic stuff cluttering our downstairs and later the attic.
