So I am taking my niece and nephew to Disney in January - I want to surprise them and have something fun in the room for them when we arrive... my niece is 17 and nephew is 14.... any idea of how I can do this and what I can do? thanks

You can do something from the Disney Florist but the resort won't put anything in the room until you are physically checked in.

True, we had someone send our children a gift back in 1999. If I remember correctly it was waiting for us when we got back from the parks the second day we were there.:)

I ordered fowers from the Disney Florist for my Mum this year to get delivered on the day of arrival. If I can remember correctly I put an order message stating our aproximate arrival time, sure enough they were there when we opened the door.

You can also have items delivered to your room by normal mail. I have heard of people shipping items from amazon. I believe contacting disney they can give you the address for shipments.
