dd is invited to an 8 year olds birthday party. The birthday girl loves Target so dd wants to get her a gift card so she can get what she wants. What is a good amount for a child of this age? The girl is a pretty close friend to dd. Is $15 enough or should it be $20, $25?

I have an 8 year old - we do $10 for birthday parties. I wouldn't do much more than that.

When my boys started doing gift cards instead of actual presents, we always did $20 GC for whatever it was--Target, iTunes, Game Stop, etc. Then I'd usually get a small "something" to go with it, so it was more than just a GC--could be just a box of candy, a Lego minifigure, something from the Dollar Spot at Target, etc.--just another $2 or $3.

I'm pretty sure that when my grandsons, ages 11,9 and 7,get or give a GC for a BD present its usually $25.

We usually did about $50 on a gift card when our boys were invited to a friends party. We really didn't change it with age. No wonder they seemed to be invited so many times. :)

When my boy/girl twins are invited to the same party, of course I double the gift. I give $20!or $25 per invitee, depending upon the relationship.

I generally do $20 gift cards for kids but I also add the tax amount. So around here, I would get a gift card for $21.50. This way the kid can pick out a $20 gift and mom and dad don't have to cover the tax.

For an 8 year old, I would say 15, but you will get a wide range of responses here.

I keep my gifts around $15 if it's not a close friend. For a gift card I might do $15 with a small $1-$2 item.

If it were just a classmate that my kids really did not associate with much, I used to do $10 or $15. If it was an actual friend that they did things with other than go to school $20-$25.
