gift baskets

Hello everyone
I will be taking my first disney cruise in November with my 8 year old son. I was thinking of having a gift basket made up for him and having it delivered to the ship. I have read wonderful things about Shirley from the Perfect Gift and would rather she make up a basket instead of DCL's baskets. But I have a few questions. How soon in advance should I order the basket? Can I pick what I would like in the basket or are they pre-made? I was thinking to have something like a snorkel mask/tube, underwater camera, a few treats (chips, candy, pop, etc) and a few other little things. Would Shirley be able to make something like this for him? Any advice would be appreciated!

Did you request the items in the basket or was this a standard basket that Shirley makes?
After seeing that picture, I will definately order through Shirley....she did a wonderful job!

We contacted Shirley about 3 weeks out from the cruise to order the sandpail bucket. It turned out awesome! Here is a picture of it.

So, how much did that beautiful bucket cost ya? Total-with shipping (if you don't mind me asking)? Trying to decide if I want to order or just be cheap and make one up myself for my DD5 . Thanks, for showing the picture!!!

The basket was around $50 (that includes the $12 fee). That was the large sand pail (included sand molds/scoop/truck). The cost all depends on what you put in it. Shirley will tell you right up front the cost of the baskets so there are no surprises what so ever on the cost. She is so great to work with. Also there are so many things you can put in the baskets (more than what is on the website). Just don't be afraid to ask.

The nice thing about having Shirley make up the basket is you don't have to pack and bring the stuff with you. My DS eyes just lit up when he first saw the basket. Oh and another thing is Shirley will even send a surprise postcard to your little one free of charge-now talk about customer service!! My DS couldn't believe that MM sent him a postcard.

To us it was well worth the money and my DS played with the sand toys at every port of call. We did leave the sand stuff on CC because I didn't want to pack the stuff up and carry it all the way back home.

My son is so excited for this holiday, and he would be thrilled to find a special basket just for him in our cabin. Our cruise isn't until November 11, so when should I contact Shirley to order one?

It is amazing that Disney charges so much, but I am glad that I can get a separate basket for my sister and one for her little boy into the same stateroom for $12. Shirley, you are one smart cookie, but then we already knew that! You work so hard for us!!!!! THANK YOU.

Hi Shirley....
In my original post I inquired about a basket for my 8 year old. Is it possible to put snorkel mask/tube, underwater camera, and a few other things together in a basket? I will send you an email or phone before my cruise to order (I don't leave until Nov) but I am curious if this is something that you would be able to do. Also, if you have any other ideas of things to put in the basket, I'm not too creative. This is a special holiday for us (I'm a single mom, work full time shift work, etc, etc) and it is a Mommy and son, get away from reality, just the two of us holiday and I want to make it special and most memorable for him. Although I have included my son in most of the planning of this cruise, I have a few surprises for him and this would be one of them. I have read (and seen pictures) that you make the most gorgeous baskets and can't wait to see my son's eyes pop out with excitement. Do you have any ideas for a basket that I could order and how soon should I place the order?

Hey, Erin,

This sounds like it would be absolutely fantastic for you and your son! I do so hope I am not out of line here, but I know Miss Shirley is swamped to the hilt this month. Usually, she requests two weeks before your cruise leaves to get everything in order for you. She can put anything you want into the baskets, within legal reason, of course. She even allows us to purchase some special things ourselves and send them to her to be included in the basket. Do you know what size the snorkel gear should be?

You HAVE to have a camera ready to catch that look in your son's eyes when he sees this. I'd LOVE to see it!

Erin....

Take it from one has had many, many, many "baskets" sent to The Magic by
"Minnie Shirley"...... Shirley always put from "Minnie" on DD's baskets...until DD got old enough and figured it out....she saw all the stuff in Shirley's shop that had been in her baskets....and she finally put it all together!!!!

Anyway.....

Let's see....Shirley has done baskets with the sand toys, ballet theme, horse theme, and now that she knows DD so well, she just makes one up and I don't even have to ask...except for Dr. Pepper...a Teenage Diva cannot live
without Dr. Pepper!!!!!

Unless you have a specific, like the ballet or horse theme, if you leave it up
to Shirley...you won't go wrong with her choices.

Have a great cruise and give Shirley a call......she's the best.....
