Giant tags on clothing

Does anyone know the culprit for this new thing where every single article of Disney clothing has a tag that's about six inches long? It makes certain things unwearable when you buy them unless you want to travel everywhere with scissors.

We always travel with a small pair of grooming scissors, the kind you find with the nail clippers and tweezers and such. They come in handy a lot. At home, I use the same type of scissors to cut off clothing tags. Because the blades curve, I can easily cut the tags in a curved way so there are no sharp corners.

You can also often just rip these types of tags off, as long as you do it properly, one tag at a time.

I'm with you. Tags are ridiculous. There's got to be a better way. Who views the final product with the 10 inch long tags at the bottom of the shirt and says ' Yep, thats what we were after', put it on the shelf.

I'm very particular. Not quite sensory issues but along those lines. I don't trust them to cut it in a way that wouldn't annoy me more than just leaving it long.
I completely understand. The first thing that I do when I get new clothes is cut the tag off. I have extremely sensitive skin and even the softest of tags irritates me. I have a small sewing kit that is always in my suitcase and it has small scissors.

I pulled out a hat DH bought in October to put in luggage for next month and found that huge 6" long tag on it - how ridiculous! I have $ store scissors in FL just for this issue.

To answer your question, the culprit is a law passed in the EU in 2014 that essentially requires clothing tags to be printed in 23 languages. Since most manufacturers sell clothes to numerous clients, the most sensible approach is to just use the same labels in ALL clothes coming off the line, rather than stopping every so often to switch to a different tag.

Thank you! I assumed it was California Prop 65 but EU makes sense too. It seems like a more recent phenomenon than 2014 though.

Well the law went into effect at that time but perhaps for awhile clothing companies tried the tactic of using different labels for different markets before realizing how inefficient it was.

I've had these long labels in my clothing since at least 2015, to my recollection. I have a pair of Athleta pants that I've had that long that have a tag like that.

I was all pumped to wear my new DCL shirt home on the plane and then I put it on and found I had this weird little tail.

I agree about the tags - they keep getting longer. I can deal but the kids would be irritated. I just kept the clothes for home unfortunately.

I agree about the tags, they're super annoying. They're especially annoying on the Mickey headbands where you have a giant tag sitting on the side of your head if you don't have a Cast Member cut them off for you.

I do have a few headbands from Tokyo Disneyland and they have nonexistent tags. They say the name of the park and that's it. Meanwhile my headbands from WDW have a mile long tag.
