Hoping this my help someone -

Our local Giant Food Stores (Central PA) is offering a gift card deal this week - for every $50.00 you buy in gift cards, you receive a coupon for $10.00 off your next shopping order. Bought a $50.00 Disney gift card last night to make sure it works. Worked great - the only down side is that the $10.00 off coupon expires on June 17th.

I'm going back later this week to get the rest of the cards to pay off my Disney Cruise and get my free groceries :cool1::cool1:

There's some more info on the Stop & Shop thread. I spent my $120 in Catalinas today. 12 separate orders and lots of diapers for my baby. Below I'm pasting my post from the other thread.

Ok, I'm back from Giant in PA. Was able to buy 12 $50 gift cards and got $120 back in Catalina's.

Here are some tips:
Your credit card might get flagged. Mine did after #6. A quick call fixed it, but it may happen.
My DH and I went through the line each time. We had the kids with us, so it was easier this way.
Catalina's expire 6/17, but that could change based on the day you buy it.
We could not roll the Catalina's into the next gift card. I plan to go buy Pampers for $9 plus a $1 item to use each one.
One store had signs up about 1 gift card per household, the other did not.
I'm going to enter all gift cards into the next Disney gift card app to keep track of them.

I think that's it. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks so much! :goodvibes I've been holding off buying gift cards, but a $10 coupon is a good enough reason to start!

QVCShopper ~ can you tell me more about the gift card app? I haven't heard of it before....

If you have an iPod, iPhone, iPad, it's a free app that you download from iTunes for free. just enter your gift cards to keep track of them, check balances, recent transactions, etc.

This is an absolutely wonderful app. We use gift cards for spending money, as our grocery store gives us fuel perks for purchasing them. We used this app on the last trip and it worked great.

Can you use all the $10 coupons in one shopping trip?

You have to do separate orders. I did 12 with 2 kids and a baby. Wasn't fun. I took over a self checkout line, though, and ended up with 12 packs of diapers and wipes, snacks, etc. just paying a little over $10 per order.

Ok, ask me if I feel like a common criminal......

I just got back from Giant, purchased disney gift cards and some SWA giftcards because they didn't have many Disney ones left. You could only get the $10 for every $50 purchased so I had to do transactions for $50 each time. There was a sign that said if paying w/cc, you must have id. Okay, no problem.

I went to the self scan and started to check out. Right away the check out person came and asked for id which I produced, my drivers license with a picture on it that even looked like ME :rotfl:. I told her I was using the same cc, put my wallet away and left out my disney cc and my bonus card, which she seemed to be fine with. My check out register was right next to the girl so she saw EVERYTHING i did. Well about 5-6 transactions in, the manager starts hoovering giving me the evil eye and she keep whispering to the check out person. Eventually she came over and said I need to see your id for the cc you are using....okay, no problem.
Continued to check out with both the manager and the check out clerk eyeing me they whole time.
Apparently they had a problem last week where someone got $1000 of GC using someone elses cc. I can understand the need for them to be xtra cautious and look out for themselves but just because someone(me) wants to take advantage of a promotion THEY run so I can save money doesn't mean I'm ripping them off too. My PICTURE id was checked twice!!!
As I was walking out of the store, I noticed they were still both starring at me.
Unbelieveable!!!!!

I noticed on the coupons it says "limit one coupon per transaction per day" Did you have to get your additional coupons overrided or did they just scan? Did you use your bonus card?

I was able to use all of my coupons in one trip but had to break up my grocery order into five separate transactions. I just used the self-checkout and ended each transaction when it was $10.xx and put a single or change in for the difference. I only bought $250 worth of gift cards so only had to do four (plus one at the pharmacy!) with my coupons.

I also had to show my id and the lady looked at me like I was nuts when I was buying all the gift cards! It was still worth it for 20% off money for my trip. In fact, I may need to go back again later this week!

Just wanted to report back that I went to Giant, purchased 2 $25 Disney gift cards and got the $10 catalina (they were out of $50 gc's). There were no issues going through the self-checkout.

I went back later and got some groceries and more gift cards. I paid for the groceries and 2 $25 gift cards and used the $10 coupon, then asked the cashier to ring up the other 2 gc's separately. Worked like a charm and I have 2 more $10 coupons to use before 6/19.

And - as someone on the Stop n Shop thread suggested - paid with my Chase Freedom card to get an extra 5% cash back.

Thanks so much for starting this thread. I wouldn't have read the Stop & Shop one b/c there isn't a store near me and I didn't realize it was the same as Giant. I can't believe I just saved 25% on Disney gift cards!:woohoo:

We've been doing this all week too!! We shop at Martins here in WV (which is the exact same store as Giant in PA -- we use a different name because of the Giant Food stores in the DC area). At our store yesterday, we had 6 $10 coupons and when buying groceries we told the cashier we were going to split up our order and she said no need. As long as we had more than 6 items and was more than the coupons we could do 1 order which we did and it was a relief. However, she did have to manually enter each coupon, but our $77 order ended up at $17.

We have so far $400 in Disney GC and yesterday started buying food ones. We went to Panera's for lunch so got 2 $25 cards and will be back to buy a few more and probably some for Cracker Barrel. Heck, we eat at this places a few times a month, so why not save $10 off of my grocery bill for each purchase. As for the expiration of the coupon, it seems the coupon expires 7 days after it's printed, so you actually do have a week to use it. Yesterday's expire on the 19th. So keep that in mind.

So anyone who gets ready to split up their grocery order, ask the cashier if they want to do it the easy way or the hard way.

As for hovering to watch me use my CC. I welcome anyone to ask for my ID. I actually prefer someone to do that--it makes me feel like someone is doing their job to project my cc. I've used my Disney Visa for all of my purchases, so a little extra savings there too!

Yesterday when we stopped to get our Panera GC, the cashier said "they're back"!

Has anyone been able to roll over the coupon at Giant or Shoprite? Use the $10 off to buy another GC?

DH called and said our Giant doesn't carry Disney GCs. I said that our store is probably sold out, but he said that there isn't even a spot with them amongst the other gift cards. Oh well, off to drive around and find out.

Thank you so much for posting. We are moving into a new house early July and need tons of paint etc and new appliances which were are going to purchase at lowes. Giant had lowes gift cards in stock. Over the next few days I will try to get about a thousand total. $200 in 'free' groceries!!!! Again, thanks for posting I did not know it was going on.pixiedust:

and customer service manager acted like I was robbing the store. I had called to ask earlier in the day, and they said that I could purchase more than one , but each $50 had to be a separate transaction. When I got to store, manager said it probably wouldn't work (cashier flagged me).

We moved to customer service, and it worked, but the manager sure was mad. I am a little insulted, the ad clearly states one per household per transaction. It does not limit one per household. Anyway, just glad it worked!

I tried this today - my first transaction I had a young girl cashier who scanned my gift cards. Then I handed her the $10.00 off coupon, it didn't work when she scanned it so she manually entered the coupon. So I got my GC for $40.00 plus another $10.00 coupon.

I went back and got another GC and went to another line. Did the same thing, but when the coupon wouldn't scan the cashier call the manager. After 10 minutes and 3 managers later the answer was no, you can't do that. They wanted to know which cashier did for me the first time - said I don't remember, didn't want to get the girl in trouble. I really didn't think it would work the first time, but it doesn't hurt to try - I will just use my remaining coupons for groceries!

I did tell the manager that they need to be consistent with their rules.

I was able to purchase $1300 of gift cards today at giant. I did it over several trips with only 4 or 6 transactions per trip. It worked like a charm. Every transaction I would use the $10 coupon and only pay $40. The cashiers were all happy to do it no problems at all. One of the cashiers this morning was so excited she even started singing"we're going to Disney...". You would think she was the one going. I plan on getting my last 4 tomorrow so for $1500 of gift cards I will end up paying $1200. There were tons of Disney gift cards at my store so there's lots more on the shelf for others.
