Giant Eagle "sale"

I agree with everything the previous posters have said. What is the deal with Giant Eagle? I never use the restaurant/coffee bar area and the cost of adding those areas into store I'm sure has been passed on to we consumers. I am finding better deals at Shop n Save. I am fortunate to live where I have a Giant Eagle, Aldi's and Shop n Save within spitting distance of one another (Bethel Park), so it's no more gas/time to take advantage of the sales at all stores.

Agree on the produce issue too. I've never found a grocery store that has good produce and I live quite close to Trax Farms, but I don't know that they sell much of the produce they grow. I too can't wait for the farmer's market.

What I am loving are the CVS deals. If you haven't looked at the thread(s) on that subject, do so. You can get alot for your money there.

I live in Bethel as well. Just off of Oregon Trail. Small World! :goodvibes

Do you use the CVS up by South Hills Village or Library Road? On another note, the Pinball Wizard and Cigarette Discount Outlet that were torn down on Library road I'm told is going to be a new Walgrens. Can't figure that out. Walgrens, CVS and 2 Rite-aids all pretty much with in walking distance!

I was at my Giant Eagle yesterday and I noticed there was a sign that said that they will not accept more then 3 of the same coupon at one time.

I'm glad mine has no limit!

I live in South Park (near the old high school), so I mostly use the CVS on Library Road, although I have used the one on Route 51 in Pleasant Hills and the South Hills Village CVS. They are all about the same, and the one I go to depends on where I'll be traveling. With the current price of gas, I generally don't go out of my way for a sale, otherwise, there wouldn't be much of a savings.

I wondered what was going into the cigarette outlet spot. Walgreens sometimes has a good sale and coupons in the paper, so having one in the area where I do most of my shopping will be quite convenient. I once heard that all of the drug stores were coming in because the state was going to allow liquor sales outside of the state stores. Drug stores would be prime locations to sell liquor as there's some connection (license?) between the ability to sell prescription drugs and selling liquor. Don't know if that's true, but it seems as good an explanation as any for the multitude of drug stores that popped up here a few years ago.

On another note, did you know the South Hills Village Disney store is the ONLY one remaining open in Pittsburgh? We are lucky!

Too funny - we are neighbors! I live on Amy Dr  DH actually went to South Park (I am a Ringgold grad.)

That makes absolutely no sense to have two Walgreen's that close! But then again as you said there are two Rite-Aids within less than a mile of each other on Rt88!

I like the Bethel CVS but my favorite is the Rt51 store. I usually hit that and Walgreen's on Sunday mornings (with an ocassional Century III Giant Eagle thrown in :) )

I had heard the same thing, coming in for the liquor or beer sales. We only had Thrift Drug/Eckard (whatever it was orginally) for the longest time then overnight we had all these other ones pop up. :scared1:

I was holding my breath when I saw all the other ones going out and then jumping for joy when I saw this one was the only one staying! My wife thinks I'm crazy, but she calls me her third kid anyway.

And on top of that a Wal-Mart, Shop 'n Save and GE right in the middle of all of those! I can't figure out how any of them are making enough money to stay open. It's not like the parking lots are EVER full. :confused3

I understand Walmart and Giant Eagle but I can't figure out for the life of me how that SnS stays open. That place is always dead!

Wanna hear something even more funny????? I graduated from South Park too (class of '74--I'm older than dirt!), live in the Ryan Home Piney Ridge plan, and worked at the big Government facility close to our homes. Glad to see there's more than one Disney-holic in the township.

I am surprised to see so many pittsburghers on the budget board!! I wish there was more than one store close to me. the next closest grocery store besides giant eagle is trader joes within a few miles. and trader joes is hardly a grocery store (though i do love their pizza dough).

Walgreens exploding in western pennsylvania has nothing to do with possible liquor sale. the company is expanding, theyplan to have 7000 by 2010. the are also hittin that area hard due to rite aid buyin eckerd.

I am also jealous of all my Pittsburgh neighbors with so many shopping choices. Small, small town here, about an hour from you Pittsburghers. It is half an hour to any Walmart for me, I graduated from a TEENY high school in Armstrong County called Worthington (now closed). Any Disneyholics up my way??

There is a CVS (one) no Walgreens or Rite Aid. I love CVS, and do buy a lot of their specials and extra buck items. I just transferred two prescriptions from GE to CVS for the two $25 gift cards, I feel like is is a free fifty bucks to spend (carefully) at CVS.

Target does the same thing. i put a can of suntan spray in my basket that came wiht a free sunstick for $8.99. I went by the suntan area and the "no free stick" can was $1.10 less. I hate those sticks anyways!
