Ghirardelli Reopening

I have to know...does anyone have any information on Ghirardelli's re-opening at DTD? I am leaving for Disney on Friday and I really love that place. I am hoping that someone will confirm that it has reopened so that I can rest comfortably before my trip. If you know anything-Please HELP!

I didn't even know it was closed. Is it closed-closed, or is it just closed for a rehab? Their sundaes make an excellant lunch, so I hope their closure isn't permanent.

Can the OP share where she got her info? Obviously, we can get stressed over such things!

This is straight from the Orlando Sentinel April 7:

Ghirardelli Chocolate Co., which operates a gourmet-chocolate shop for Walt Disney World, is shutting down for a couple of weeks for refurbishment.

Disney officials announced last week that the shop, located in Downtown Disney's Marketplace area, will be closed from today through April 24 for routine maintenance and updating.

The Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop was notable for receiving readers' highest rating among all Downtown Disney restaurants in the Zagat Walt Disney World Insider's Guide published in 2007; reviewers called it a "chocoholics' paradise" and the perfect place for a "decadent ending" to a day at the parks.


It should be open again by now. I hope it is. I'm planning on stopping by next week.

I just searched around the 'net and saw that it was in fact undergoing rehab and was scheduled to reopen on April 25th but it DID NOT reopen on that day. Anybody know if it is opened yet???

We leave Friday also and this was one of the highlights of my trip. In fact, it was going to be the first thing I did when I got there!!! Someone PLEASE tell me it's open!!

I was there in april and I can confirm that Ghiradelli is closed for rehab. It was scheduled to open the last week in April but it was delayed and they did not open on time. They did not have a set open date after April so it's just a waiting game. The chocolate side is open but the Ice Cream Parlor is still closed

Maybe it's b/c they were in trouble with the health dept and needed a good steam clean on the place- it gets in trouble every inspection. I for one would welcome the close if it means they are fixing it for the better. Once I read the health dept's inspection report it kind of made me want to stay away from there (and Earl of Sandwich too).

Yuck...not sure if I want to know what the health department says. How dirty can it be one has to wonder...everything is out in the open and nothing lasts very long.

First of all. The celine dion concert would ruin everything for me. I can't stand her.

Anywho. You can definitely get a Brownie Sundae on Sunday. I don't know if it will be Ghiradelli but you can definitely get one somewhere

We were there last week, and it was still closed. Lots of constuction walls up, both around the store, and by the tables near the water.

The chocolate shop is still open.

On another nameless website the person swore that their inside person said it would open next Monday.

Then again, that same website said they were delayed but that it would reopen by this last weekend. So who knows?

I just called Ghirardelli's. The lady said the store is open, but the restaurant is still closed. She thinks it might open "tomorrow... Thursday... I'm not sure. Everybody's waiting".

We leave Friday morning, and must have our Ghirardelli's!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just called too and they told me they're not opened yet and don't know when they will be. SO SAD!!!
Any other suggestions for special treats in DTD? Ghirardelli's was to be my special Mother's Day treat!!!
