GFCF diet and dining plan

I wasn't sure about putting this here or up with dining. My autistic son is on the GFCF (gluten free and casein free diet) and we are planning our next trip back to the world. On our last trip (10/07) he was not on the diet fully - only milk free, so it was a little bit easier. I know the chefs can accomodate his diet at most table service restaurants - so I am wondering about the dining plan... Should we do deluxe and have the option for more TS as opposed to counters or should we stick to the regular and bring in our own foods for him? Just wondering how others with ASD kids on the GFCF diet had success.

Thanks in advance

We had the most success at the table service restaurants. I usually bring one meal per day for my son and he eats that when we have counter service.

We did find some good snacks though- at the bakery in MK they had gfcf cookies and brownies that counted as a snack on the dining plan. I have seen the cookies at DHS in Starring Rolls- but they have not been there every time. I have also heard that the 'itzakadoozie' ice pops are ok on the diet and they sell them at all 4 parks at the little ice cream stands (check ingredients though...I can't guarantee they are gfcf)

If you email Brenda Bennett (Brenda.Bennett@disney.com) she will send you a big bunch of attachments listing the gf stuff and common allergies stuff. It isn't broken down as gf/cf, you have to do a bit of matchy-matchy and reading. She also will forward your email to any restaurants where you have ADR's.

We have the standard dining plan. I am not concerned about the TS's, and the CS's the info Brenda sent gives me an idea of the kind of food available and the places we're most likely to find it. It seems many places carry gf "bread" (hot dog buns, rolls)-- the Ener-G ones-- I suspect DS will be eating alot of CS hot dogs, but that's fine 'cause that's what he eats at home. Once you get the mail from Brenda, you'll see, you can figure out quite a bit from the info she provides.

If it helps at all, DS is gf/cf along with several other food allergies and going to WDW May 30- June 6 and I plan on writing one heck of a trip report. ;)

Thanks for the info. I look forward to your trip report as we are not going until August and we have food allergies.

Yes, thank you very much for the info! I too am in need of gluten free menu options!

Hellokittiemama:

There was a family going on a wish trip who's daughter had severe food allergies and dietary restrictions, right after my family went on my son's wish trip. She has done a trip report and has tons of info on who to speak with at Disney ahead of time to make food arrangements, and where to go for what kind of food. Her screen name is whosyourmickey. If you follow the Wish tripper's unite link in my sig, you will find the link to her wish trip report in the first post....she is very thorough, and I am sure you will find some info that will help you.
