Someone on here posted a map of the area previously, but I can't locate it right now and don't recall the distances they showed. The advantage of the Contemporary to Magic Kingdom walkway when we stayed there last year was that it was an easy/short way to get to the park. We found taking the monorail back from Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary worked best for us since it was the next monorail stop.
The Magic Kingdom is the next stop after the Floridian, so it seems the main advantage would be when returning from the park. Compared to walking, if you took the monorail when returning, you would have to go all the way around the lake and make 3 other stops (Contemporary, Ticket/Trans Ctr & Polynesian) before getting to the Floridian.
