Now that I have a Garden View room booked ...how do I get the best one? Which building should I request and how should I request it? Any secrets on how to get upgraded? Calling all experts!

Thanks in advanced for the information

Jim

I'm so glad you decided on the Grand Floridian. :cool1:

This is from the Thread on the Grand Floridian:http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=513609&highlight=Grand+Floridian

What views are offered from the Garden View Guestrooms?
Garden View Guestrooms are available in Sago Cay, Conch Key, Boca Chica, and Big Pine Key. In Sago Cay, Garden View Guestrooms either have a monorail/water view, or a view of the resort’s marina. Guests staying in a Garden View Guestroom in Conch Key would have a view of the resort’s marina, or the gardens off of the quiet pool. Boca Chica’s Garden View Guestrooms have either a view of the quiet pool or an obstructed view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom Park. Big Pine Key’s Garden View Guestrooms feature views of the quiet pool.

*We stayed in Conch Key and actually ended up with somewhat of a lagoon view and a view of the courtyard. It was fantastic :sunny:

What are dormer rooms?Dormer rooms are located on the top floors of the buildings, and have vaulted ceilings. These rooms are smaller, but appear larger because of the high ceiling. These rooms have either two queen beds, or one king bed and sofa

*We had a dormer room and loved it! :goodvibes

I hear that there are different themes that the rooms are decorated in. Which theme is where?

When you've decided on what to request, call the Central Reservations Office and ask them to please write your request on your reservation.

I would put in a request for a corner room. They are slightly bigger than the standard and offer 2 balconies. Which building you request is really based on what you'd like to be near. The resort is not that big, with probably a 5 minute walk between the two furthest points. Big Pine Key & Boca Chica will put you right next to the beach and swimming pools. Sitting out on your balcony might be a tad noisy though. Conch Key is closest to the boat dock, but furthest from the main building and pools. It's very quiet here though. SagoCay is a great choice. Garden views can either overlook the marina or the monorail swishing by. Not too far from the pools and extremely convenient to food, the bus and monorail station.

As for upgrades, it all depends on resort capacity when you go. From what I've heard, they do try to upgrade your view whenever possible. I would just ask at check-in. Be polite, ask if there's any chance you could see the castle from your room (or whatever your request) and go from there. If there is going to be an additional charge, the CM will tell you, but usually if it's available and not booked, they'll try to give you some magic. Of course, if you're looking for an upgrade to concierge or a suite, then you'll have to pull out your credit card.
