GF Construction... ugh!

We are leaving on the 15th for our GF/BC split stay. Looks like I picked the wrong resorts and the wrong time to visit WDW!!! :confused3

Found out a few weeks ago about the closure of 50% of SAB at BC. As usual, the people on this board were so knowledgable that we knew about all the construction to expect at the BC even before I received the letter in the mail from Disney notifying me of the partial closure. Okay.... so we decided to stay at the BC and make the most of it.

Now it appears that the construction going on at GF has really taken off and from the looks of the pictures posted by the wonderful people on these boards.... the entire beach has been blocked off and there is huge barriers blocking the view of the beach from the pool. All this with a huge crane in the background.:scared:

I haven't received any notice from anyone at Disney or GF telling me about this construction at all!!!! If I wasn't on these boards I would be totally and unhappily surprised to find these conditions upon arrival.

Sorry.. just venting... but I'm starting to get frustrated.

Hoestly, if you are that unhappy about it, I would try to switch hotels. It is what it is, I guess. Sorry that this happened....unfortunately, it is an inconvenience.

Think about it this way - every time you see a wall, barrier, or crane, something good is happening at WDW. We will be staying the the Poly. The view will be a "little" unsightly, but the view from the Poly is still better than any view in Indiana - unless Sofia Vergara moves next door:).

Sorry that you're hitting construction for both parts of your stay :grouphug:.

We were originally booked at BC for next week but switched to the GF when we found out about the work at SAB. I knew there would be some construction at the GF when we switched but I figured there are still so many parts of the resort where you won't notice what's going on, including the courtyard pool, which is where we ended up spending most of our pool time last time we stayed there. I am bummed that the beach is going to be blocked off though - I'll miss getting the pretty view from the feature pool, which we are planning to check out this time around.

If you think it's going to put a damper on your stay, you should be able to switch resorts still. I know when my DH called guest services was very helpful in getting everything swithced for us.

Good luck and I hope you have a good trip.:goodvibes

OP I completely understand your frustration and this is why we decided on to stay at the GF for our June 2012 trip. We love the feature pool and renting the cabana's but with the crane's and construction wall, it was just too much for us. I truly hope you have a wonderful time and like LittleStinkerbelle said, there are other parts of the resort that you won't even notice what's going on. Sending you some pixiedust: for your GF/BC stay.

Sorry OT. I think Sofia Vergara is just a beautiful and funny lady. She seems like she would be great to meet and you are right not bad to look at even if I am a woman.

I hope you have a wonderful time at the GF next week. Take lots of pictures and we are looking forward to hearing about your trip.:flower3:

i too am in an awful situation, arriving at the YC in 5 days but found out here today that most of the pool is being refurbished. It is my daughter's graudation present and she has wanted to go back to this hotel since our last stay 8 yrs. ago so we were sooooooooooooooooooooooo excited to stay here again this year. Even decided to skip waterpark because we could not wait to spend a day at the pool and totally relax and enjoy! My dining reservations and my entire itinerary revolve around the location of the Yacht and Beach Club. And when calling Disney all day i'm not getting any kind of positive outcome. Can't get into another deluxe resort at this point without paying a ton more money. This is just awful, we went from being overly excited about this vaca. to feeling sick with disappointment! The resort NEVER even contacted me to let me know of any construction going on :((((
So we are STUCK!

We were booked at GG starting 4/16.... just got off the phone, I made a switch to the Poly. I'm sure the view from there will also be affected, but at least not the beach and pools. They were very helpful, I sat on hold for a while but they were able to get permission to apply my original discount code (which had expired months ago) to the new room.

Not sure that this is the right call.... I love GF!.... but I think the barriers by the beach and the kids pool would have really bothered me, since we spend a lot of time at the resort in the afternoons.

sorry this is happening to both places you're staying! Poor planning on the part of Disney, if you ask me.....

When you called, did they have you talk to someone in Guest Services? That is who they ultimately transferred my DH to and they seemed to be in a better position to help him make the change. I'm sorry you didn't get contacted and I know what you mean about having your plans all revolving around the Epcot area. When we made the switch I spent the good part of the day reworking ADRs but I was at the 4 week mark not 5 days so I really feel for you! Good luck:goodvibes:flower3:.

I'm a DVC member. I take my family to Disney three times a year for a week. We visit many of the Disney resorts for shopping and dining. The GF and the BC have so many other things to offer. Stay with your first choice. You will enjoy yourself because you will be so close to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

One year, I stayed at BC, and SAB was closed, and the next trip I was at BW and the feature pool there was closed. Both times they had golf carts to take people to the pool on the opposite side to use. It may not be the same as you had planned, but it doesn't need to leave you sick with disappointment. There will be pools, and sunshine, and you are still staying at a great resort. It may not be the trip you originally envisioned, but some of my best trips turned out to be the ones that didn't go according to plan. I hope you have a great trip!

Thank you, although greatly disappointed I do have to realize it could certainly be worse and we are lucky to be able to take a vacation and stay at a 5 star resort as many cannot. We are contemplating staying at a Club Level at the Poly or a water view (will push for club level) at the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk would allow us to keep our itinerary and dining ressies the same but the Poly although very different from our typical taste looks like fun. Decisions . . . .

You want to speak to someone in Guest Services. They'll be in a better position to help you. If you want to stay in the Epcot area, there is Boardwalk Inn if they have space. I've stayed there and it's really nice.

This happened to us one year. I won't go into details as it is very long and has nothing to do with this thread but you are so right. We had the best time that trip.

We are very big on going back to the resort in the afternoons and spending time at the pool as well, so I completely understand where you are coming from. Sending you lots of pixiedust: for you trip. Where ever you and your family stay, I am sure you will have a fabulous time. :flower3:
