I was thinking of upgrading to concierge on this trip but i have read here that it isn't worth the money. Is the room bigger? Is the food worth it? Is it a better view:confused3 ?

The room isn't bigger (unless you're paying extra for the bigger room), and the view isn't any better - you may get a theme park view, or you may not. If you're going solely by the food, I really doubt that any amount of snacks could add up to $150-200/day. For us, we really like being able to hear the orchestra from our room. I know, it is weird, but that is really pretty much the only reason we stay concierge level at the GF. We enjoy the concierge staff at the BWI so much better, as well as the food offerings there, but they just don't have that GF orchestra :)

Cheers!

I am just curious are you wanting upgrade to the Royal Palm Club Level building (which is the main building of the Grand Floridian) or the Sugar Loaf Club Level building? Even though my family and I have not stayed in either one, I do know that Sugar Loaf is less expensive and I think they serve the exact same foods in both buildings.

Yes same food and basic amenities, completely different feel though.

Tammi, we meet again . . . same day, another thread. I'm so frustrated over our GF ressie problems (long story) I'm thinking we might be safer changing to RPC if there's availability. However, we're paying for 2 rooms for 7 nites so that's going to add up. Anyway, from what I've been reading on the DIS boards and in other reviews people seem to prefer RPC over Sugar Loaf. Can you expound on "completely different feel" and is it worth the extra money?

I was thinking that, too. But then I wondered: how much is breakfast and an afternoon snack for a family of 4 or 5, plus soft drinks and water that we might grab there? Maybe not $150-200 (actually it looks like the GF Sugar Loaf rooms are only about $125 more per night), but it's taking a pretty big chunk of it. Then you can consider if the remaining is worth the extra service.

Now for RPC, it looks like you're talking about closer to $300 more than the standard room. That's a little harder for me to swallow.

When it comes down to the two, I do like RPC more, but if it's not in the budget, I would definitely choose Sugar Loaf again. Some of the differences are in location obviously, with RPC being within the main building and Sugar Loaf is a 2-3 minute walk outside. The way the buildings face on property, Sugar Loaf view requests only include marina & courtyard. There are no castle views and only some of the marina rooms will give you a view of the fireworks.

Finally, it's the overall ambiance. We've stayed in Sugar Loaf twice now and I typically describe it as feeling like a bed & breakfast. The lounge and staff are located on the ground level, in what would be the lobby of the building. There are some couches, chairs, tables, food service and CM desks. The only view per se, is what you can see out of the front and rear entrance doors. The lounge doesn't have tv's and sitting there just has a comfy, relaxing feel to it. You pass by the CM's daily and it can be more personal. Now, in the RPC, it's very different. The space is much more spread out, with the lounge on the 4th floor and the CM's on the 3rd. Unless you're room is on the 3rd floor, you may never see the club level CM's other than at check-in. The lounge is arranged on the balcony and overlooks the main lobby. There are large windows that look out over the grounds, a big 3rd floor balcony that is open to guests and a few televisions. In the evenings, there is a piano player in the lobby and when the GF Orchestra starts up, they're located just two balconies below you.

Is it worth all that extra for ambiance? That's the million dollar question.

Tammi: What a great description -- I feel like I've already seen it! I didn't realize there were rooms on the 3rd floor (I thought they started higher). I imagine the views are probably better in the higher rooms, though. DH is a stickler about seeing the castle from his room. I called CRO and unfortunately they're completely booked for our dates but I'll keep trying and hoping something becomes available. We have 3 months so maybe we'll get lucky.

Thanks, again!

Most of the standard concierge rooms are located on the 3rd & 4th floor. The 5th floor is primarily where the suites are located. In the main building, there are 18 standard concierge rooms which have a castle view (request only). Some of the rooms overlooking the courtyard pool may have a partial view of the castle, but not very many of those at all. If the view is a must have, then you may want to consider the CR with their MK view rooms. That's the only resort where you can guarantee that you'll see the castle.
