It seems that the service at the GF is very inconsistent at best. Some have a PD filled wonderful stay... and others have horrible service. So, again I'm debating between the GF SugarLoaf concierge and Poly Concierge (can't afford main building at GF  ). I would be looking at Poly LVC most likely. We're going at Christmas with three 5 year olds. They like to play and have FUN!

So, which one would you pick and why? They are both full service now (with alcohol, desserts, cordials- SL upgraded as of July 2005).

Any help would be appreciated!

We stayed at GF main building concierge last year. I didn't like it as much as the Polynesian because the atmospher was stuffy and it felt like children were to be seen not heard. Although I have older girls 11 & 14, I didn't have this problem. But I can see some adults looking at parents with toddlers as to say "Why are they in same room as us"

We definitely preceived far superior service at the Polynesian at both stays than the one night debacle we had at the GF. Besides, the PR LV CL view is amazing, very quiet, and very private.

I think with 5 year olds the Poly may be better fit for you. There is a t.v. in the lounge at the Poly. My DD had a ball playing and talking with other little girls one night. We all watched Wishes from the lounge. From what I saw during our 8 night stay, children rule the Poly lounge. The t.v. was on the disney channel. It has a family atmosphere. The Neverland club is wonderful.

triplefigs - we've posted on same threads about GF as we're taking our twins there this fall, I know how excited you were about it, dont change your stay b/c of someone elses bad stay/day....I think its great to get all the info you can, but you dont want to regret a hasty decision in the end!!!good luck! :goodvibes

Also, anyone who feels burdened to share the RPC w/ my 2 kids can jump in a lake, the kids have every right to be there, its Disney people!!! :sad2:

Does anyone have anything "official" about the upgrade at Sugarloaf Key? This might be an option for us! Thanks!

My kids loved the big TV in the concierge lounge at the Polynesian! DH said GF for our next trip. Is there a big TV in RPC lounge or SL lounge?

This could be important as it entertains the kids for a few minutes in the morning until the coffee kicks in.

TA!

I totally agree. Your vacation will not be someone else's and vice versa. I had to deal with some issues on every vacation we've ever taken. I don't let it spoil our fun! I certainly wouldn't change my reservations because of someone's review. I appreciate reading everyone's review, good or bad, but it's not the deciding factor for me. Every hotel at WDW has had bad/poor reviews. I like to read them because I feel more prepared if something similar should happen to us. I think it's great that people here on the DIS take the time to share their experiences.

poohluvrs- I don't think the RPC is quite ready for my DS3 but heeeeeeeeee's coming! He does get away with a lot because he's so darn cute :p , but in reality he's a real STINKER!

We stayed last year at the Poly LVC and it was fantastic. My son was 2 1/2 at the time and loved the lounge. Especially the child size chairs with all his favorite munchies like pb & j and fruit loops with a disney movie playing.

I found the staff very nice. Busy but friendly. Rooms were clean. Location was fantastic. I think the theme is awesome. You feel like you are in a island resort with the lush foliage, volcano pool and tiki torches yet your a step away from the theme parks.

I had two complaints but nothing to do with staying concierge.
1. We were on the 1st floor so we had a patio and every time we opened our sliding door it was like a signal to every single duck on the resort to run over and beg for food. The first day it was cute but grows old fast and good golly the mess they made - ughhh!
2. When planning I didn't realize we were going during NOJ. It was so loud that we could hear the music playing with our door closed until after midnight. It was terrible - I think it echoed off the lagoon.

I would stay at the poly lvc again and again!

This year we are trying the GF RPC. I'd really like to hear some nice things about the RPC if anyone would like to share. :earsboy:

Triplefigs, it's never failed. Whenever I plan a trip, it seems like we're just about ready to go and all these negative posts starting popping up about the resort we chose or a dining establishment, etc. You have to do what you feel is right for your family. There's nothing worse than picking a resort and all the while you're there, you are looking across at someplace you'd rather be at. The Poly has the same offerings when you considered it before. A great view of Wishes, big lounge, newly refurbished rooms, etc. I can recall about 2 months ago that someone posted an extremely negative report on their Poly concierge stay. Actually, here's a link if you want to check it out, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=808705 . I honestly can say that I haven't seen too many negative posts on the Poly, probably the one thing that sticks out is that many do mention a musty odor is sometimes very noticeable. I wouldn't let anyone elses experience turn me away from a resort, but it's definitely all good information to have.

Meezers, not sure what you mean by official. It's been reported by a very reliable source on the DIS and Triplefigs has had a confirming e-mail from the GF IPO staff.

Garada3, there are 2 tv's in the RPC lounge, but none currently in SugarLoaf. I thought the lodge had a much more relaxed atmosphere, more like a bed & breakfast.

We've brought our kids to the RPC lounge for years. I've never felt like anyone was looking at us funny, but who knows. It wouldn't bother me because I know my children are all well behaved. If someone had a problem with seeing kids at a DISNEY resort, they need to vacation somewhere else.

This was just the thread I needed. I have been wanting to stay at the Grand Floridian for years. Everytime we would go to Disney as a child, I wanted to stay there. So when we planned our trip for December, I decided that we would stay at GF and just had to be in the main building. We are so excited about the trip, but then almost instantly after booking the reservation, I read many posts saying what horrible stays some people have had. It got me a little worried, but I stayed with the plan and kept GF. I am glad I did. Thanks for the information and especially the advice about not switching resorts just because other's stays were bad. I am sticking with GF main building and I am excited about it. I know we will have a wonderful time!

Well, we're keeping our GF SL reservation. I will hope for a great stay, and if not, then at least I'm still at WDW with my family!!! :flower:

Dont take the "stuffy" comments about the GF too too seriously, I have a feeling that many people that feel this way have an inferiority complex of some kind "someone looked at me funny" - LOL,

Just go and enjoy the awesome atmosphere ... both the GF and Poly are fantastic places to be !

We just got back from 4 nights at GF main concierge. There was never a time that kids weren't around. They had a seperate part of the food buffet at kids height with kids food (PB&J sandwiches without crusts, cookies etc. They have small kid sized tables and a kid sized couch seating area with a TV playing cartoons.

The whole area was very kid friendly.

I took my niece and nephew - 6 & 4 last summer and they absolutely LOVED the Poly concierge. I think its a great spot for kids.

WE enjoyed the GF RPC lounge a lot!! My kids are awesome and polite and well behaved, but even if I saw kids that were not, it is DISNEY!! Kids are welcome. The lounge has an area of cute kid sized furniture with a TV, and there is also a TV near two sofas. The lounge staff was extremely nice & friendly. My son's favorite soda is rootbeer - he asked a lounge CM if she had any and she did not, but the next day she gave him a 6 pack of Barq's RB!! We just thought that was too sweet & thoughtful of her.

We only encountered the NICEST people when we stayed at the GF. Guests included.

I had a different experience at the Poly. :bitelip:

Just go with YOUR decision and don't let other posts have too much influence. I was new to the DIS last summer and read sooooo many fabulous things about the Poly and CR 14th floor that I felt the NEED to try them. They were both busts. Extreme disappointments & big regrets. I learned an important lesson from those stays. Do what YOU feel is the right choice. Stay where YOU think you would be happiest.

It seems there is a real variety of experiences at the resorts & service is hit and miss. If you are very unhappy where you wind up, I don't think it would be too much of a problem to change resorts at the time of year you will be there.

Happy planning! & stop second guessing yourself & worrying!! :flower:

Second Guessitis - A very irritating and puzzling condition. A comon condition that most adults have experienced at one time or another. ;)

Since I have been on the DIS there always seems to be one resort or another that starts getting "not so great reviews". The bottle line is do what you think will make you happy, and what is with-in your budget. We currently have reservations for RPC for September. If I were going to change anything, it would be to change it to Sugar Loaf concierge lounge room, since they are making both lounges the same. :flower:

I'm going to be in Disney with my DH, celebrating our anniversary and birthdays. If I can't see the castle from my room, is it going to ruin my vacation? No! If someone is having a bad day and is rude, is that going to ruin my vacation? Nope, I am going to continue on having a great time and making our vacation every thing we want it to be. Because life is too precious to waste a single second of our time together doing anything else.

Triplefigs, I am sure GF is going to do everything with-in their power to make our vacations fantastic.

Lives4Disney and Angel16, You both are so right. I still would love RPC, but it's not available. I think that SL during Christmas will be wonderful!!! I'm planning on having a great time, *whatever* happens!

Sorry Angel, but I couldn't resist pointing out this Freudian slip. You've always got your mind on the concierge lounge  .

Well, I for one can't say enough good things about the GF RPC, with the exception on one stay in Sugar Loaf, the rest of my stays were at RPC.

I know there are people out there that poo poo it for being stuffy or not living up to their expectations etc etc. In the same vane though, I've read some horror stories about the Poly Concierge too.

As others have said, one person's bad experience doesn't mean it is a constant situation. Triple Figs, I think you'll be very glad you kept your GF reservations!
