My BIL, SIL, FIL and MIL will be at OKW 1/23-1/27/05...my MIL has trouble walking and will need a wheelchair...what are their chances of getting one of the resort Wheelchairs at OKW during their stay at this slow time of year? Anybody have any thoughts? If they don't get one can they rent one from a medical supply company on short notice after they arrive? Or should they just arrange ahead to rent one from a medical supply company?

We needed a w/c in January a few years ago and had no problem getting one from the resort, I just asked at the front desk. If for some reason they don't have one available, I'm sure most offsite rental companies are prepared for short notice requests, but it may take a few hours for the delivery.

We got one for my mother a few years ago at OKW. We asked when we checked in and they had one available. We had to leave a credit card deposit that they kept on file until we returned the chair. If we didn't return the chair, we would have been charged $250. It was very convenient.

I just got a wheel chair at OKW today. We got it arround 6pm and they still had some at that time.

You can even take the chair to the parks. We used it off site, too. They are very good helping with all those special needs.

Getting the resort ones should be a piece of cake during January. My Auntie had no problem snagging one in mid-December.

Just be aware that these are older-style, kinda clunky wheelchairs, and pretty heavy. For a lighter-weight more manouverable chair, you can rent from folks like Walker Mobility, and they'll deliver it to you at the resort. The resort wheelchairs are far more cost-effective tho.

hey if I get one of those big ones - I tell them no way can I pick it up (for moving in the car) - and they immediately find me one of the smaller and easier to lift ones.

they to lift the thing there - if you can't then see if they can't get you a smaller one. also make sure they give you a lesson is how to fold it up.

If she would be able to drive an ECV, you can also rent those ahead and have them delivered to OKW. We did this twice through CARE medical supply, and it was VERY easy and not at all expensive. I believe it was $200 for a week, but that was a year ago.
