We're going next June and was just wondering...I thought it would be nice to listen to the water at night, kind of lull you to sleep. Also to get some fresh air. So what do most people do, keep it closed or open? Any disadvantages to keeping it open?

We tried it , Was to hot out and we closed the door and let the AC do it's thing..

I 2nd the being HOT!!! We also have two little ones. But it felt and sounded nice to keep the door open till just be for falling asleep.

We have been on the Wonder in April and Jan. and we left our verandah door open every night on both cruises :) We were never too hot...in fact, the verandah rovided a great breeze :)
Enjoy!

We left it open on our west coast cruise. Was nice to hear the ocean at night. I actually took a pillow and blanket out on the veranda in the middle of the night and slept in one of the chairs that reclines. One or two nights it was too cold though.

We were also on the 6/11 West Coast cruise and left our door open every night (some nights wider than others!). Being from AZ, we enjoyed the cool air and sound of the ocean. Last Aug. ('04) we were on the Eastern Magic and it really was too hot to leave the door open--we tried, but like Goofy FD above, when it was time to sleep, the door had to be closed.

When we have gone (October and end of March) it has been too hot to leave the door open even though I thought it would be nice too. The air was also much more humid so we kept it closed so the A/C could keep the cabin cool and dry.

Our first two cruises were in August 2003 and August 2004, it was too hot and humid to leave our door open. This past January, we did leave our door open one night, but it got quite chilly in the room and around 3am I got up and closed the door. It was nice to hear the ocean, lapping up against the ship, as we drifted off to sleep.

We had the verandah for our second (July) cruise. Way too hot.

Like you I thought it we be neat to hear the ocean, we didn't even try. The first evening sitting on the verandah we knew it would be to uncomfortable to sleep.

Way to hot in June, and humid. You will want the door shut and the AC on.

You won't need to hear the water to sleep, believe me.

when we left the door open for a while, the salt air really boggs things down. it starts to feel really sticky in the room. we generally left the door closed. we traveled in the middle of august.

We've cruised the Caribbean in January and June. In January it was o.k. to leave it open, in June there was no way. We liked to sit out there before bed, but in order to have it cool enough to sleep comfortably, we needed the ac.

I haven't been on a cruise, but I grew up on th Atlantic and I can attest to the ickiness factor. Salt air is just about the most sticky, icky thing in the world and I wouldn't want to sleep in it again, if I had a choice. Even your cloths and towels start to have that damp, sticky quality. If ou want to hear the ocean, leave your door open for a little while, but then close it for the night. The A/C will dry things out pretty well.

We had smokers next door that seemed to be up all hours so we slept with the door closed.

Okay, thanks to everyone. The concensus is to close it.

I don't know...just try it and see for yourselves! I LOVED the verhanda and sitting out there, but I agree that it was too humid for me. But everyone is different. We went in the end of May by the way. Actually, I was afraid of bugs getting in, but maybe that was silly...i never saw any :confused3 I know...I know...that is stupid :rotfl: but I have never been to the ocean before, so I did not know what to expect...but I hate bugs!!!
Anyway, the beds were the most comfortable i have ever slept on while on vacation! Does anyone else agree! (not the kids bunks, but ours!) It was so soft...and I slept great the whole time!

The bed was very comfortable, but our pillows (must have been new) were like rocks. The one time I forgot to pack my pillow from home, is when I needed it most. :rotfl:

Two cruises, both in January. Left the door open. It was great.
