Getting to Sanford without car?

Anyone flown from Sanford and got there any other way than self drive? We only plan on having a hire car for one week of our 3 week stay (first week) and so need to get to the airport, homeward leg, some other way.

The difference in cost of having a car for the whole 3 weeks is about £350-400, as we'll be onsite at WDW for a large chunk of our stay we don't want a car the whole time. Not worth it for us at that price.

Anyone used a prebooked taxi? I believe it's a fair drive so probably not a good option:confused3.

We needed to use Taxis to and from Sanford in 2011, as we had booked a package and Thompson were beyond useless ( we couldn't use the transfer as DH is in a wheelchair and they refused to help)

It worked out at about $100 incl tip, each way (we were a couple of miles outside Disney) so quite a bit, but we had no other option.

I have no idea of how you would get from Sanford & back without a car.

Your best bet Would be to spend the money AND hire the car for the 3 weeks

AND reduce the time spent at WDW , THEN use the hired car to

Visit other parts of greater Orlando area & Florida.

For instance ..... Go and see Fort Christmas on Hwy 50 & take the airboat

Trip at Midway , Go to Blue Heron Boat Tours at Hontoon Island ,near Deland,

Gatorland,etc

There are many ,many other free sights to see outside of the Theme Parks

Kelly Park in Apopka , Blue Springs all swim places & good fun

This might not be what you want to hear But it is another angle on a trip

to Orlando.

While I agree that there is plenty to see and do in Florida, I believe it is the OP's first visit to WDW so I can imagine they will be keen to stay local and experience all that Orlando has to offer before worrying about heading further afield.

OP, your best bet would be to use a car service, such as Mears or FLTours to get you back to the airport. You may have to Email them for rates but it shouldn't be anywhere near the £350-£400 you would pay for the car for the extra fortnight.

Thank you for your help Wilma :rolleyes1. I will bear that in mind once we have our flights booked - I can always email them for a quote. It may not be a problem if we end up flying from Manchester to Orlando, but if we do book the Dreamliner then it's something I'd need to figure out beforehand.

It might even be worth you hiring a car just for your last day. If you are still at Disney, you could pick it up at the car care center or Swan/Dolphin and then just use it to get you back to the airport on the last day. It probably wouldn't set you back much more than about £30.

Thanks for your help Vicky. I didn't see your reply earlier. That is quite a bit isn't it. I think Wilma's idea of (another!) hire car might be better! :lmao:

Yes, I was thinking that. The issue is there are 6 of us, so unless the 'taxi' was a minibus type of thing, we would have to get two taxis! I think a 7 seater car for the one day and drop off at airport may be the best bet.

What started off as me using a TA to do everything (mainly due to my worry of organising it all), is turning slowly into a DIY trip :rotfl2:. I hadn't realised getting flights sorted would a) throw up so many options and b) cause me so many headaches :rotfl:.

By far the cheapest would be a 1 way car rental.

Just priced up on Virgin holidays for a 7 seater, 1 day rental from Disney Car Care to Sanford next day.
All inclusive £31.99
Add gold (extra drivers & tank of gas) £6.00

Total £37.99.

Thanks Wayne. That is cheaper than I was quoted on Alamo by £20! A transportation company have given me a quote of $99 inc tolls etc. But it's still more than the hire car.

I guess the options are there if we do manage to book Dreamliner seats into Sanford. April won't be long....;)
