Getting to MK from Poly

The last time we were at WDW, they did not open Main Street early at MK. My understanding is that they now let guests in at 8:00 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. opening.

We are going to RD Space & Buzz. I was thinking that we would aim to get to the gates at 8:15. Is that too late to get in a good position to RD Space? I'm not familiar with how the crowds are on Main Street and at the gates before the official open at 9:00 a.m. This is the Sunday before Thanksgiving and is a party day, so possibly lower crowds than a non-party day leading up to Thanksgiving.

We are staying at the Poly. Would you take the Monorail or the Boat? And what time would you suggest leaving the Poly? We are arriving from the West Coast the night before. I want to maximize our morning in MK, but also don't want to wake my family up earlier than necessary, since we will be jetlagged.

Don't have any experience with RD, but I'm pretty sure the boats won't be running early enough to get you to MK an hour before opening.

The Resort Monorail, OTOH, traditionally has started running at 7am every day. I noticed that last week, with 7am MK EMH, it was scheduled to start at 6:30.

When we stayed at the Poly last year we stuck to the Monorail for rope drop. It starts running way earlier than the resort launch. In general we only took the resort launch if we were going back to MK after our midday break. (I recommend doing it at sunset at least once.)
