getting to hoop dee doo revue?

this will be my first time doing HDDR, i have also never been to the camp grounds.

we have 7:15 ADRs, we plan to spend the morning at AK, go to the resort(POFQ) and go to the HDDR from our resort. we have our own car.
is it easier to drive to the campgrounds? then how do i get to the HDDR, do i have to walk? how far is it? how long will it take?
or is it easier to go to MK and take the boat over? how long would that take?

also how should i time this? the CM who took the ADR said be there by 6:30, isnt it assigned seating, do i really need to be there that early?
thanks!!

If you have a car, it would be easiest to drive yourself over to FW campgrounds. There is a parking lot at the enterance of FW and you have to transfer then to one of their internal buses. This should not take longer than 20-30 minutes from POFQ. We don't pick up our tickets until showtime, which is why they request you to get there earlier. Sometimes the line is long and it takes awhile to check in. Yes, it is assigned seating. Have fun it is a great show, we are doing it again this year after missing it for a couple of years.

I agree, if you have a car, use it. when you get to the Fort Wilderness campgrounds (watch for signs along the road), then you park your car and take the bus. The stop is right by the parking lot. In order to save time, see if you can get your tickets when you check in. I think you might have to go to the concierge desk in the lobby.

thanks, i was thinking it was going to take over an hour to get there. so i should think if we leave the resort at 6:00 we will have time to get there, and check in.

oh, thanks, i will try to get them as early as i can.

You can drive to Fort Wilderness, but to reach Pioneer Hall (the building in which the Hoop is held) you will have to take a bus from the parking lot. You can't drive right to Pioneer Hall.

I think they tell people to get there really early because they assume you might get lost on your way to Fort Wilderness (possible) and they are taking into account the bus ride through the place.

PO isn't far from Fort Wilderness. If you don't get lost, you could get from your room to the bus stop in about 15-20 minutes. Then you have a 10 or 15 minute bus ride.

The seats are assigned. When everyone is lining up, don't bother. When they're all trying to be the first in the door, don't worry. Just walk around, check stuff out - chill! Being in the front of the line doesn't get you a better seat. :) You can pick up the tickets at your hotel and not have to stand in line to get them when you arrive.

Have fun!

See what time MK closes that night. I found most buses from the resorts go only to the parks. Now if MK closes late here's what you can do. Now I'm not the expert and I'm trying to rember if there is a boat that takes you right to the FW camp grounds from MK. But here's what we did. The boat from MK will take you to the WL and from there you take another boat to FW camp grounds. Its really a nice boat ride. Other wise you need to get to the FW campground parking lot and then catch a bus that will take to the main hub. The bus system at the campgrounds are coded by color and just run in the FW campground area only (large area). There's quite a few buses so if you take the wrong bus it could take some time, but don't worry you wont get lost. Don't worry if you decide to do the boat just ask when you get to the dock and someone will help you. Rember if your dependent on the buses. You must take a bus to the park, and from the park to different resorts. Always check to make sure the parks are open in the time frame you need to return.

The boat is great if you happened to have been going from the MK to Pioneer Hall, but IMO the ride itself is not worth all the time and trouble it takes to take it. Driving right to Fort Wilderness and taking the bus would be a lot faster than driving to the Ticket & Transportation center, taking the tram, taking the monorail, and taking the boat.

But if you happen to be at the Magic Kingdom and need to get to the Hoop, the boat isn't a bad way to go. Very pleasant ride (especially in the dark) and docks close to Pioneer Hall.

If you're worried about getting on the wrong bus, don't be. Ask the driver, "Are you going to the Hoop Dee Doo?"...chances are he'll say, "Yes." :)

Having your own car is good in this situaton.

We have had HDDR reservations and almost missed the show once because you never know how long the boat and bus are going to take.

So, take your car. I don't know any specific answers besides that.

no we arent going to be at MK..but that leads to another question. is it convenient to head over to MK after the HDDR? to maybe catch wishes and a couple rides? and then we would have to take the boat back and get back to our car.

The DIS is experiencing a very strange problem with the posts appearing in in the threads in random order of posting.

Regardless here are maps of the areas.

I have driven our rental car and taken the boat to HDDR. I personally recommend the boat (you will have to verify what time MK is open that night.) When we took our car and got on the internal bus to HDDR - it was fine...the issue was leaving. It was a few years ago so my memory is foggy but I believe we got lost...not fun. So, the following year, I made sure to take the boat over - it works out well for us.

Have fun! I'm looking forward to going to HDDR again this year. Funny, we are also going to AK during the day before HDDR. :thumbsup2

This thread is so scrambled, I don't know if this has been said, but...

If you are staying at a WDW resort, and you don't drive to the Hoop, but take buses/boats...

AFTER the show, Disney provides DIRECT to RESORT buses at the Pioneer Hall ("Setttlement") Bus Stop.

Just tell the waiting drivers which resort you want, they'll put you on the right bus, and drive you there.
