My love wants to go and play in the ocean for a morning since he has never been near an ocean.

How could I say no ?? Brilliant idea actually, I've been so caught up in the ADRs of planning and wedding details that it didn't even occur to me.

I understand that Cocoa Beach is 1 hour from WDW. Is the best idea booking a round trip taxi (ugh) or is there a better way to get there? ALSO, I couldn't find any info on if the oil spill is affecting that particular beach!

Help!

PS We're more open to taking public transit than a taxi! We don't have an ocean or bus service here! :rotfl:

No oil spill issues @ Cocoa Beach that I've heard of, except maybe a stray tarball someone might have mentioned.

I think renting a car is the best way to go. Taxi - definitely not. There are probably shuttles of some kind as well from Orlando to CB (maybe check the Mears Transportation website - they are the biggest around). Or a car service.

Couldn't we just take a city bus or two from WDW to Cocoa Beach? Or is that nutty? :P

We only want it for 1/2 a day and one of the things we are most excited about is not driving for nearly 2 weeks!

Bah! :confused3

I don't believe there is that kind if bus. It's 60 miles away I'm guessing. I used to live there but don't know the exact mileage.

There is no bus to Cocoa Beach. It takes just under an hour to get there.
I would really consider renting a car for the day. A car service is going to cost you about $200, and as I said, there is no public transportation between WDW and Cocoa.

Hmm...

There are one day beach tours that will pick me up from ASMu, take us to Cocoa Beach for the day and provide lunch. - however, this option is $38 per person, and we would be at the beach ALL DAY!

We could take a $40+ taxi drive each way.

We could rent a car (waaaa!) but this would mean changing our credit card to one that could be used internationally, and I don't know if there is enough time now! Plus this is our bottom of the barrel option, as much as this is great in theory we don't want to drive :rotfl:

Any other ways to get this done?

I'm not sure where you got $40. A taxi will run you about $120 each way. And with a drive that far, they will probably charge you double because the taxi will have to drive the 60 miles back to Orlando after dropping you off.

All told, the taxi would be a minimum of $275 round trip, but it would probably run you well over $500.

Maybe a one day repreive would be good for you & finance' - it's just a day & it sounds like the price is right. Your love has never seen the ocean, certainly it's worth a day of your time, no?

P.S. Congrats :bride:

The $40 was based on some post I saw that said it was typically $40 per hour when taking a taxi :lmao:

We are beach people where we live, so we really didn't want to spend the entire day at the beach - here we spend most of the day each Saturday in the lake (we have 7 beaches in town!) so although it IS the ocean, the beach isn't the special part! He really wanted just a dip in the ocean :wizard:

Either way, I'll get this done for my honey. I had a car service quote us $180 for the drive each way and 2 hours at the beach.... so it is doable in different ways! I always think there is a better option though and am brain picking people who know the area well now :rotfl:

There truly isn't any other cheaper option...unless you find someone who happens to be driving over there and you can hitch a ride, there and back.
If it were easy and cheap, believe me, we would know about it. Many WDW guests want to head to the beach for a few hours, but don't simply because it is neither cheap or easy to do.
