We are going to Disney in September (DH & 2 DD) and I am *pretty* sure that we would like to go to the following restaurants for dinner.

Boma
Spoodles
Whispering Canyon
50's PT-on a day when we visit MGM
Raglan Road
Yak & Yeti-on a day when we visit AK
and 3 Epcot Restaurants (have not been able to narrow that one down yet :rolleyes1 )

My main concern is we plan to spend 3 days at MK. (We will be there for 10days) but I am trying to figure out how to work the restaurants into the plan without losing too much time. We are renting a car, but I have heard that it is still better to take Disney Transportation to the MK because then you can bypass the TTC. Since none of the restaurants I've chosen are in the MK, I'm wondering if I should change my selections. I know I can take a boat or us to whispering canyon quite easily and quickly, but the other two days I am there how long will it take us to get to Boma, Spoodles or Raglan Road? and then back to the park? Should I take Disney transportation or just drive the car? Maybe I should change some of my ressie's?

If so, what restaurants do you reccommend that are close enough to the MK to leave the park, eat and get back to the park again?

Sorry so long, this will be our first time staying on-site and using the DDP and I just want to make sure we don't loose too much time travelling back and forth to restaurants, but at the same time we would like to experience some of the recommended restaurants! Depending on park hours we would like to be in the park early, leave for a mid day break and return around 4 or so. Usually we eat dinner at 7ish.

TIA

Getting from the MK to Raglan Road would take you a while. You would need to go to a resort (any of them...Ploy, GF...) and then take a bus to DTD. It could easily take 45min.-1 hour each way depending on how many buses they have running. A car for this one might be your best bet.
To get to Boma you would just need to leave the MK and then take an AKL bus to the resort. About 30 min.
Spoodles you would need to take a BW or BC bus and then walk the boardwalk to spoodles. About 30 min.
If you want restaurants that are closer to the MK any of the ones at the Poly, GF or CR have fabulous places to eat.
Poly- Kona
GF- 1900 Park Fare, Narcoosee's, Citrico's
CR- The Wave, California Grill

I would just drive the car. In fact I intend to drive the car. I would much rather drive 10-15 minutes than wait for a bus that I may or may not get a seat on--just me. I love the fact that parking is free staying onsite.

We stay onsite and we drive - and we like it that way. Last year DD wanted to take the monorail from Chef Mickeys at the Contemporary -to MK for fun -Big mistake we were on that thing for close to an hour. Dh who drove our van to TTC and then took the monorail was waiting for us inside the park was very worried.

Boma and Spoodles would be fairly easy to get to once you are at the MK. You just hop the bus to the right resort and go on your merry way!

When going to Downtown Disney for any ADR's from the Magic Kingdom the best thing is to get on the bus to Saratoga Springs and when you arrive there exit at Congress Park, then use the walkway to Downtown Disney. Getting a bus from one of the Magic Kingdom Monorail Resorts will take longer since the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian all share bus service.

Unless you are traveling with little ones, I think you will be fine. Otherwise, you may want to rethink it. While we often hop to dinner at a place different from the park we are at, we don't then hop back to that park again (we would go to the one nearest dinner if we still have the energy.) Just my 2 cents.

This is good to know!

I second this! Easy Peasy and only one bus ride and such a nice, short walk. :thumbsup2
