I won't be taking anything on board with me, it will all end up in the luggage compartment. That said if I take ointments or medications, will they be confiscated by security?

Will I have to buy my medications in Orlando? How bad is it?
I'm pretty sure I will have to get my 5 hour energy drinks there?

If your ointments are in your checked luggage they will be fine. You run into trouble if you have them in your carry on because they will have to be in a 3 oz container to go through security. But everything in your checked luggage can be of any size and it will be fine.

If these are prescription meds you it would safer to carry them on the plane with you in case your luggage gets lost. If the container is bigger than 3oz you will have to have them in their original bottle with your name on it and you will have to go through some extra security checks.

If I were you I would still take some sort of a bag through security because you will have to remove EVERYTHING from your pockets including your wallet. It would be safer to put your wallet, car keys, boarding pass and anything else you have in your pockets into a carry on bag. It is a lot SAFER, there have been a lot of thefts this year at MCO . I would not want my wallet rolling down the security belt and I can't keep an eye on it. Plus once you walk through the metal detector then all you have to do is grab the bag rather than trying to collect each individual item.

Or, you can put them in your shoes. That way you can not possibly forget them.

A few years ago, when we went through airport screening, DD's meds showed trace amounts of explosives. I was unaware that there was a problem, so of course I was not acting evasive. They could see that I was unaware of any problem, although after about 10 minutes I asked if I could collect our things. They said no, so we waited another 5 minutes or so. Then, they explained what they had found, and I had to remove all her meds from our carry on, they recorded the medical info from the bottles (thankfully I had kept the pills in their original bottles) and I had to sign for them. I was embarrased and thought, this is just great! If this plane explodes, guess who's picture is going to on the 11:00 oclock news. :( :sad2:

You should have all of your medications and essential items as carry on, just in case your baggage become delayed or lost.

Place all medications (any size, including liquids and gels) in a large clear zip top bag and mark it as 'essential medication'. Take it out at security, along with your usual liquids and gels bag and place it through the scanner with everything else. I'm a walking pharmacy when I travel and have never had security blink at my huge bag of medications and medical supplies.

Medications are exempt from the liquids and gels restrictions as long as they are separate and labelled as such. Prescriptions must be in their original packaging and have a prescription label on them. Some medically necessary products, without a prescription, are allowed too, such as liquid pain relievers, itch ointments, etc. There are a few restrictions, so check the TSA link in a previous post.

When travelling internationally, there are different restrictions in each country. Medications are always allowed, but some medical supplies or non-prescription items are not. Check the regulations for every country you will be stopping in.

It is never a good idea to check everything. You should have at least a small bag with a change of clothes, and any essential medications with you on board the airplane.

Rather than relying on info from people here (regarding something as important as medication), I'd check out the TSA website instead.

This isn't quite correct. Some countries prohibit you from bringing in certain prescription medications.

taking at least a small bag with essentials.

A curb side attendant switched tags accidentally sending my bag to Newark while I was in Orlando. The lady owning the other bag took mine to her hotel. She would not release it until she received her bag which further delayed delivery.

You can charge the airline for reasonable expenses, but it remains a pain to have to get everything you need. I was fortunate to not need any medication at that time. I wonder how much time I would have wasted finding and getting to a pharmacy and arguing with the insurance company about paying for a prescription early. And while I buy clothing at WDW, it is not where I would buy most of my clothes.

We had a direct flight once and assumed nothing could happen and our bags would not be lost. Well, they were lost and important blood pressure medications for my hubby were lost as well. It was a hassle to call back home and to get everything refilled. We knew better but made a poor decision by not putting important things in a carry on, never again!!! Back to DW in March

I am very careful with my carry on bag, I place my daily meds in the week counter thing and put them in my carry on. I was questioned last August about something in my carry on bag and they went thru it and found nothing, however, they did put it back thru the scanner and it did show up again, so I am not sure what was causing the problem.

Noahdove ,

I place my daily meds in the week counter thing

I believe we have to keep our meds in the original containers, and I certainly am glad I did that when they found something suspicious about them. See my post about 8 posts back.

Just a note: I'm not sure what states require this and what states don't, but in some states you must keep schedule II meds in their prescription bottles. Also, some dear relations in LE had some fun and told me about what my pain meds go for on the open market, which has made me a bit paranoid about losing my meds.

I've never had a problem - my pain meds are pills in the original bottle and are packed down deep in the bottom of a secure pocket of my backpack - but it's something for anyone who travels with pain meds to think about. It's not the TSA but random anonymous folks in airports that I worry about.

Keep your meds in their original packaging and keep them snugged away your bag at all times!

I recently traveled from Philly to Dominican Republic and took 20 prefilled syringes with me in my carry on. I had them in a clear bag with a copy of the doctors prescription on top. No problems whatsoever.
