Getting The Most Out of a Summer Visit To DLR

Hydro Guys: Whch hotel is BWPPI? We're trying to find a not too expensive hotel walking distance from Disneyland.

Still debating on the on/off season though:sad2: We're 2 adults so we can basically go any time we want. BUT We love to see shows and parades so we might opt for the summer or the labour day weekend. If we do opt for the summer, would it be a good idea to choose the weeks that certain AP's have blocked out days (2 first weeks of August) , would we save any crowd at all by going on weekdays?

Thank you so much!
:)

BWPPI = Best Western Park Place Inn - see DLR Abbreviations List - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520784

This link shows where BWPPI is located (it is the closest besides GCH): "Bret's Disneyland Lodging Map" (shows hotel locations around DLR) www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap

This is also helpful: "How Far Is It?" (shows actual distances in feet from hotels to DLR entrance plaza) www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=mm060329as

Regarding your other question, if you go in summer avoid weekends and that is good as you can do. I am not convinced that trying to avoid APs is all that valuable. In 2007 we were at DLR the week AP blackouts went into effect. We had 1 1/2 days before the blackout and two days after. Yes, you could notice lower crowds on the final two days but it was not super huge. And since it was late June I suspect crowds picked up with summer visitors over the next few weeks and it all balanced out. As I said repeatedly in the OP of this thread, be smart how you tour in the summer and is very doable and lots of fun. :thumbsup2

Do the links for the graphs still work? It's asking me for a password to view them.

We are planning a trip the first week of August - 2010. This thread is really invaluable!

Thanks :yay:

Do you guys think these graphs are still relevant now that WOC will be opening in June? We'll be there June 17-22nd & just wondering if I should still plan around these tips/graphs? TIA!

The graphs are approximations of what happens throughout the day. Just to give you an idea. WOC is going to change things at DCA. Since Disney does not seem to have decided what they are going to do, it is hard for anyone to say what the effect of WOC will be at this point. But it will be a huge change in traffic patterns that we know. :)

darn, I was afraid you were going to say that...just when I was starting to get the hang of things ;)

Wow!! This is so incredibly helpful! (As are all of your threads!!) Thanks for putting this together! I'm glad I'm planning early so I have plenty of time to digest all of this! Silly me, I thought that we could just show up and ride the rides! lol! I can see now that my family will get a lot more out of our trip with a little careful planning on my part. (Good thing I love to plan! ha ha!)

You say not to go on weekends in summer. We are going June 20-27 with the Blockout days being June 23-26. Would you alter your advice and go the blockout days (which includes a weekend) or go Mon-Thurs (2 non-blockout days)?

I am talking about during the summer blockout period (July 3-Aug 21 this year). You are going before the long blockut in which case the June blockout days are way more important than weekday vs. weekend. I would stick with blockout days as much as possible.

This is a MOST awesome thread! :thumbsup2
We have a trip planned for this summer and I intend to put most of your suggestions to good use!
Thank you SO much!!!

Thanks for the help! We will go the blockout days.

How do the lines for tend to go for Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean on busy days? I understand that they'll be quieter before 10:00AM, but how long do they get during the peak of the day? Do they tend to die down into the late afternoon/early evening?

In other words, can HM and POTC, as major people-eaters, be "go-to's" throughout the day or is it best to do them either early or late?

^^^^^^^^
Been three other times but not in the dead of summer so I am bumping this thread to see if anyone answers your question about Pirates/HM wait times in the mid day during summer.

Usually they do not get past 30 minutes mid-day. They die down in the evenings to 10 minutes. The exception is holiday season where HM has its overlay and lines can get quite long.
