Getting rooms together

We are planning an extended family trip. How easy will it be to get rooms together? At least in the same building? Any advice for making this happen? We haven't booked yet. We will book 3 rooms, not all the same type. Probably some regular rooms and maybe one suite.

Ask Disney to "link" the reservations, and request to have rooms as close together as possible. Chances are they can at least get you in the same building, and maybe even adjacent or nearby rooms.

Thank you. What all does linking involve? What all does this mean? Thanks!

I don't know how their internal process works, but they told me they could link reservations together in their system, so that the rooms would be as close together as what's available at the time. It worked for my cousin and me. I don't know how Disney's system records this information, but you just ask them to link the reservations. How they do this is not visible to guests.

Remember even if you link rooms there is no way to guarantee your rooms will be together. Disney will do their best, but upon arrival they may not have rooms next to each other to give you. If that will ruin your vacation you need to look into renting a DVC unit. If you can make it work having the rooms away from each other, I would make the request and then not give it another thought.

Agree with all of the above. Knowing the resort will help us give some better advice on your chances of success. I suspect the different room types is where it's going to get tricky, again, depending on the resort.

We haven't picked a resort yet. Possibly All Star Music, Carribean, or Port Orleans Riverside. Still looking at numbers. Thanks, again!

I can tell you by Dreams Unlimited travel agent told me the Music is the hardest resorts to get connecting rooms, as many of them were turned into suites. If you are thinking of 3 value rooms, go with Sports or Pop. Sports would be a bit cheaper.

We stayed at BLT last year with our college age sons in two studios. I had them note we were "traveling together" and place the rooms as close as possible. They were two doors down on the opposite side of the hall which was perfectly fine with us.

Have one person make all the reservations. Ask for a "traveling together" designation. Also, don't request a specific building or room or location. Go with the flow. Decide if having the rooms near each other is more important than a specific building. Just my personal outcome but mother-in-law wanted connecting rooms with her sister but the sister wanted the 50's building at Pop Century. I had both noted. When we arrived, we had connecting rooms in the 70's. Sister wasn't there yet so mother-in-law said we had to have 50's. We were moved to 50's non-connecting rooms and not even adjoining. Sister showed up and she said 70's would have been fine.

Just to clarify, I said linking rooms will get them as close together as what is available at the time, but I didn't say it guarantees adjoining rooms. We were a few doors down from each other, but that was fine for us.

What do you mean by different type of rooms? If it is only the suite and regular rooms, you could get in the same building at ASMusic but not at AoA. I'm not sure about deluxe resorts with suites.

Depends on the resort. At somewhere like the Poly all the suites are in one building, all the Standard Rooms in others. In the Contemporary Tower, everything's in the tower, just on different floors, but a suite would be in the tower and a Garden Wing room in a different building. Grand Flo, possibly different buildings. AKL, WL, BW or BC/YC, all under same roof.

We have one larger family going that will need a suite and 2 smaller families that just want a regular room. We want to book together and stay in the same resort but not be far apart either. I understand we may not get right next to each other but would like something reasonable. We are looking at the least expensive options. This includes Music, Carribean and POR. The other values do not offer suites or AoA is more than the moderates mentioned.

POR and CBR do not have suites either.

If you MUST have a suite, your options are AoA or Music. Unless you jump up to DVC.

edit: If you want a Moderate, your option with suites is CSR.

Exactly right. And if you pick AoA there is no way the people in the regular rooms will be near the people in the suites. The regular rooms are all at the back of the resort.

Hi Michelle...we've gone on trips with extended family 5 times now. We've pretty much had all our rooms together with the exception of 2 trips, and even then we were in same building just maybe few rooms away. Rooms booked directly by each party either on their own or thru our TA.
Disney reservation system can set up a "travel with number" or "travel plan number" upon request and each person who reserves needs to request their individual resort reservation number be listed under the travel plan number. This will hopefully increase your chances of being placed closed together. The travel plan number can also accommodates notes for requests such as a specific resort location-just remember its only a request, but I believe room assignors will try their best to honor them . Good luck!
