Hey everyone! I am new to this section of the DIS, and am coming here to seek some advice.

I am in the musical "Chicago" in about a month with our local community theater. Today we had a dance rehearsal in front of mirrors for the first time. Well OMG, I didn't realize how much jiggling I had going on!!!

I definitely have weight to lose, and not sure realistically I can lose in a month, but what I am looking for is tips to quickly whittle away at the "belly fat". I can deal with the hips and the butt but I NEED to shed some abdominal fat.

Tips for ways to make this happen? What kinds of things have you noticed work to address that particular area? I have seen commercials for things on TV that you can take to help with belly fat, and I am open to that if it helps.

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to reading some more of these forums!

There's not way to focus in on any one area to rid it of fat. Sad day, right? The only way to get rid of it is to lose overall lbs, and stomach should eventually go away too. Any product that says it will eliminate any specific part of your body is a liar (just like those breast enhancement pills), your best bet is to do plenty of fat-burning cardio.

As aforementioned, you cannot target one area. However, to cut down on jiggle, cut out sugar and processed carbs. May sure to take in some good Omega-3 and whole grains otherwise your energy will be zapped.

As the others said, you can not "spot clean" your body. When you make a commitment to exercise and eat healthy to lose weight, there is no way of knowing where your body will take the fat from first. For some, the belly fat is the most stubborn fat and they lose the fat everywhere else first.

All you can do, as the PPs have already said, is concentrate on burning off the fat from your body. You can't really choose where it comes from.

A combination of cardio and resistance training (bands, machines, or free weights) is the way to go IMO. By not only trying to burn calories but also by adding some lean muscle mass you will raise your metabolic base (the amount of calories per day you body burns just keeping you alive) which will cause a positive cycle in burning the fat from your body.

First of all...... I pretty much agree with what everyone here said. It is virtually impossible to "target" a particular area to lose weight. Healthy diet and proper exercise will help you lose weight, but it will be "all over" weight loss.

That said, if you are really desperate, you might want to look into the South Beach diet. I am NOT a huge fan (I'm a Weight Watchers girl ;) ), but I've been struggling to lose my last 5 pounds for a long time and finally decided to give two or three weeks of SB a try. I lost 2.9 pounds last week (which is a HUGE number for me) and I SWEAR it was all from my mid-section. Of course, that could be wishful thinking or because that is one of the few areas where I have much of any fat left. But I certainly think it wouldn't hurt to try it.

The book is available at the library, I"m sure. I bought mine at the Goodwill actually. If you decided to try it, check out the South Beach thread here onthe WISH board for some support.
Good luck............P
