I am wondering if anyone has been able to get a refund cash back from JetBlue for them and travel party because of an injury and not being able to travel. I had a work injury 30 stitches in head , broke 2 bones in my neck ,will be in neck brace for at least 8 weeks and that is about when trip is and don't think in any way I am going to be able to travel then . I know you can cancel and rebook within year pay change fee and all that but I don't know if I would even to even use it then with missing work now and everything.do they ever make exceptions in situations like mine. Thanks

I am assuming you purchased non refundable tickets.

Did you purchase travel insurance? If so, many policies cover this type of situation.

You can always ask, but, unfortunately, you are probably likely to not get what you want, especially on non refundable fares, especially since the airline itself provides alternatives. One of the impacts of non refundable fares is the purchaser is taking the risk.

Unfortunately I agree with the PP. Unless you bought a refundable ticket and/or insurance, I don't think you'll have a lot of luck asking for a refund. It never hurts to ask though.

I have to admit, I thought you were asking about a refund because of injury caused by Jet Blue!

Your thread title is very misleading!

I agree that it's unlikely they will give you a refund, but you can always ask.

even if they gave you a refund why would they give your party a refund. they can still travel.

They may be willing to give you a refund, with a penalty, but I doubt the rest of your traveling party will be refunded.
When my father died and I had to move a trip, it cost me $500. And that was with the change fee waived for my circumstances. And when another flight was cancelled because of weather, changing flights and days cost me $300 that was also with all fees waived.
JetBlue does not overbook, so cancellations are not a breath of relief for them. They have policies that they are rare to waver on.

My Mom and I had a ticket on AirTran to go to Orlando when she passed away a couple months before. They refunded hers but they would not refund mine.

My DW and I had a cruisetour to Alaska booked for last June for our 10th anniv. Due to her pre-existing health issue we took out trip insurance. We booked the air fare and cruise separately. About a month before the trip she became symptomatic and was admitted and had surgery a couple week later. Needless to say our trip was off as total recovery time for her type of surgery is at least 3 months.

When I called JetBlue to tell them I had to cancel the flights I was told the usual. The fare paid less $150pp would be placed into a travel bank and could be used to book another trip as long as said trip was booked within a year. No biggie as I knew this when I booked and knew I had trip insurance and would be getting the money back anyway. While going through the cancelation process I mentioned we had to cancel as my wife was needing surgery and had been admitted etc. The woman then said because of that they would waive the $150 pp fee. So we ended up with the total amount in our travel bank. All they asked for was the name of the Doctor and hospital address.

I got a refund on one brother in laws non-refundable flight to Orlando on Delta once. But, I had to bring an original death certificate of his to the Delta counter.

OP, did you check to see if your credit card has trip interruption/cancellation insurance included as a benefit? I know Sapphire and Barclays MC list these as benefits. The trip has to be charged on that card to make a claim.
Good luck to you!

I broke my leg at the airport on my way to a vacation. I insisted I was still flying, the State Trooper thought otherwise and called an ambulance. I called jetBlue from the ER before the xray results and explained that I needed to change my flight to the next morning. The CSR offered to waive the change fee, but the doctor came in while I was still on the phone. Cancelled trip and still got full credit.

Non refundable is non refundable. The airline may make an exception for your ticket but they will not refund your entire traveling party.

Everyone wants to be the one exception to the rule. Everyone has a hard luck story. People lie to the airlines all the time in order to secure refunds (not implying you are lying). This is why airlines now take a hard stance on refunding non refundable tickets.

This scenario is why trip cancelation insurance exists. Accidents are never planned.
