We are bracing for a mixture of up to 1/2 inch of ice, sleet and a couple of inches of snow here in SW Iowa. I have flashlights, a propane heater and some heavy sleeping bags, just in case. School let out at 12:30, so we are all home and waiting for the mess to hit this evening.

Who else is getting ready?

Ya got some drinkin' water set aside?

Good luck to you folks up there.

Good luck. We're due to get a snow storm here in Massachusetts. Works already sent out the email that the office is closing at noon tomorrow. I went a head and told them I wasn't coming in. I have a 2 hour commute already and with a broken foot I'm not even going to attempt it.

We're supposed to get a huge snow storm here. And where I work, we never cancel because of the weather. Bad weather pretty much ensures that I will be out on the roads all day. I'm sure it won't be pretty.

Pa is gonna get hit too. Not sure how much snow/ice mix yet. Went food shopping yesterday I'll make some stuff tonight that we can just heat up on the grill if we loose power. We also need to go some some kerosene for our heater.

How about a li'l Southern Comfort, ya know, for medicinal purposes? :teeth:

Pass it my way please! We are in for 6 to 10 inches of snow tonight :scared: with 2 more snow storms to follow. Ice storm will be an hour south of us.

I was hoping to drive the 2hrs away to go see our daughter and grandbaby this week. :sad2:

If you're a coffee drinker, do you have a way to make a cup if you have no electricity? This may sound funny, but trust me - if you wake up in the a.m. to an unheated house, a cup of coffee really really helps :) . And from experience,... a coffee grinder doesn't work if there's no power ;) . Grind those beans now!

STAY SAFE!!

We are anxiously watching here in Iowa City too. All my patients have canceled for today, and I will be heading out soon. Going to the grocery to stock up, as we may be holed up for several days - there is another storm predicted for Saturday into Sunday, with possible blizzard-force winds.

Ah, winter in Iowa. After last year, I was hoping for a milder winter, but it's not shaping up that way, is it?

Sounds like you might need to stay home for now 'n stay warm too.

You know, Uncle Remus, Southern Comfort also keeps you warm inside. :rolleyes1 :teeth:

Yes, I know. :teeth:

We already got hit......15" in my yard. We aren't used to it. The roads are not plowed.....and I have a place to catch tomorrow afternoon
Hope we can get out of our long driveway and into the city....about 50 miles away.

We thought we would have it too, but it turned north and we just have the rain. Good luck!

Make sure you have lots of batteries for flashlights and/or candles. We just spent 5 days without power. Luckily we have a generator so we weren't as bad off as others but when the sun goes down it gets really dark fast.

I found it also helped to have plenty of books, cards, games, etc. all together in one spot for the kids. That way there was no hunting around in the dark trying to find something.

I'd like to prepare (go get more groceries, etc) for the snow we're supposed to be getting tomorrow (9-14 inches) but I have to wait for the stupid gas company to come read my meter. They've been estimating our readings based on the previous tenant since we've lived here (moved in August) and our bill went up over $30 in one month and we hadn't even turned the heat on! I'm okay with them estimating based on OUR previous usage (which we obviously don't have here yet) but not on someone else's.

Back to the snow- I don't know if DH will go in tomorrow or not. He takes the commuter rail and then the T to get to work but he still would have to drive to the station. We'll see what happens. Good luck to everyone!

Stay safe and warm,,, pop some popcorn and pop in a movie. Looks like it might be bad winter:sad2:

We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow/ice. Depends on the line where snow goes to mix/sleet/ etc. One county north it is 3-5 of just snow--a couple of counties west it is all ice.
Tomorrow is the kids' last day before break (not mine, my a hole assistant superintendent decided there wasn't any reason we couldn't work until the 23rd!!) and looks like they'll get an extra day.

meeee in sw Iowa too my kids got out at 1:00 but since it hasn;t started yet I guess they could have stayed til the end... I'm glad to have them home though
