Getting ready for the ice storm

It's just starting here in eastern Nebraska. I'm not ready at all! I'm at work! I'd much rather have alot of snow than the freezing rain.

School got out at 2:00 and it is now 4:00 and still nothing is happening yet.
I am not looking forward to the ice.

NJ is getting hit with snow soon too. Supposed to be tonight into tomorrow and continuing ALL day. Keeping my fingers crossed that my office decides to close early...

We are waiting on snow. Tomorrow is supposed to be the kids last day before break, but the teachers had the Christmas parties today and told them all to have a great break. LOL guess they're planning on it being a definite snow day. News said it would be coming down at a rate of 3 inches an hour. :headache: Everyone stay safe and warm!!

meeee in sw Iowa too my kids got out at 1:00 but since it hasn;t started yet I guess they could have stayed til the end... I'm glad to have them home though

Where are you? We are in Creston and school let out early here at 12:30. It's good, though, because that ensures that ALL of the busses are off of the roads and everyone is safe!

We're supposed to have a storm in upstate NY tomorrow and tomorrow night and I'm just hoping and praying it doesn't result in losing power again..

Guess there's supposed to be a storm on Sunday as well..

DD's MIL was out shopping today and said the grocery store and Walmart was mobbed - even more so than usual - because of what we went through last week.. Instead of the usual bread, milk, toilet paper and what-have-you, people were buying items that would be more in line with not having power for several days to two weeks..

I heard way back in the fall that this was going to be a long, hard winter and if what has been going on so far is any indication of what lies ahead, it's going to be a tough one to get through.. :(

I'm stopping at the grocery store for some Michelob on the way home.:thumbsup2

Don't you just love Iowa weather. :rotfl2:

We moved here in 2005. That first winter, I thought that I would die. I have never been that cold in my entire life. I am slowly getting acclimated to it, but nothing can prepare you for the cold that we are having now!

But Disney is so delightful!
My trip is coming up real slow
When I go let it snow, let it snow!:cool2:

DM area schools all let out early, but nothing has happened here yet. The roads in Ankeny are coated with garlic salt, we are good to go!

Best of luck to you. I hope you don't get hit that hard. We just got power back a week after we got hit with a big ice storm. Our main priorities were keeping the house at a decent temp, LOTS of water...we needed it to flush the toilets and drinking, several flashlights/lanterns, the rest we improvised. Fingers crossed for ya.

I read about the garlic salt...that has to be an interesting smell...:crazy2:

Argh - yep we're waiting for it to start. I'm an hour from the Quad Cities, IL & IA, and an hour from Rockford, IL. They say I-88 will be the dividing line between more snow (north) and more ice (south) for our area. DD is supposed to fly home from Costa Rica tomorrow - she's been studying there for three months and we're so anxious to see her. Not sure she'll make it home tomorrow though - the flight from San Jose to Miami will be fine but Miami to Chicago - probably not.

We are waiting to see what happens here. We are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory but the county to the north (about 7-10 miles away) is under a Ice Storm Warning. I thought I heard only 1/4" of ice over night and turning to rain at dawn.

We were supposed to get some ice today too. It hasn't happened. I think we lucked out this time. We're new to this, having just moved from California. My ds's teachers told me to stock up on essentials and lay some salt on the ground prior to an ice storm. DH was starting to look into generators too. Do you all keep generators? What about the sump pump? Do I need a generator for that?:confused3
