You realize your mistake immediately (because you're staring at the people waiting to get on and everyone else who was on the ride with you is exiting the other way), and you turn around, and cross over the correct side, and exit.

No muss, no fuss, and no one yells at you. It's no big deal. I know. I've done it!

(What can I say, I'm directionally impaired.)

They have a crew of paid sharp shooters equipped with M-60 machine guns at the ready to mow down anyone going the wrong way. That place doesn't mess with folks that are rebels and unwilling to follow the rules.

Mostly CM will "speak loudly" to you or other guests waiting will block you because if you can get off both sides there is probably loading happening. Exception would be Pirates (you'd get wet).

My cousin (7 years old at the time) tried to get off the wrong side of the Little Mermaid ride in MK and cause the whole thing to stop and have to restart. I felt bad for all the riders at the time and for her-- she was so embarrassed!

Depends on the ride, if you do it on Expedition Everest, the Yeti will come to life and take you away.

Most of the time you cannot get out on the wrong side. Either people are getting on or only one option.

i dont know how you would lol
everytime ive been on a WDW attraction most rides either announce, or a cast member usually shouts "exit to your right" lol

or like other posters have said, once you take the step to the wrong side on your exit you will hear a sound FX of Roz from Monsters Inc Laugh Floor saying " that guy!" lol
