I'm starting to get nervous about our upcoming trip to Epcot & MK. I have a disc problem and severe arthritis in my back and my Mom has back and feet problems.

I'm worried about how both of us will do with all the time we'll be spending on our feet.

I guess I just wanted to vent on a board where people might be able to relate.

Please wish us luck on our trip!

Rosey, welcome to our board!

Please click on the link in my signature to read through our FAQ. Be sure to read about the GAC, about pacing, and the tips. Some of the links are broken now because we lost access to the old boards, but please feel free to ask questions! We are here to help you get the vacation you need.

Let us know if you need help.

Welcome, Rosey, and you *will* find lots and lots of info on this board! DM and myself are both "crippled up old gals"(mom's phrase, not mine!) and yet we manage to enjoy WDW. The most important thing, I think, is not to push it so hard in the excitement of the first day that you hobble yourself up for the rest of the trip. Many days we rented a wheelchair and took turns riding. Mom took her cane and used it constantly. The minute we felt achy, we stopped and rested (lots of nice places to do that all over the world). And we consulted with our drs. before we left over medications and other special considerations. Don't be afraid to go, WDW is for everyone!

Welcome Rosey...We are so glad your here..and dont fret...just take each day slowly and as it come...as everyone has said..pace yourself... AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP!!!! :)

Welcome! Have you considered renting an ECV - electronic convenience vehicle? Perhaps you could rent one & take turns using it? It really does save on your feet, knees (in my case), back, whatever. Disney charges $40 per day up front. You get $10 back when you return the vehicle. That charges is for all day at whatever parks you visit. Disney does not guarantee an ECV will be available at the next park, but I've always found they had one available. Of course, I do not go during peak times. I agree with the others here that you need to take it slowly. Regardless of how healthy you are, you won't see or do everything in one visit anyway, so slow down - you're on vacation! Drink plenty of water, wear sun hats, & be sure to use sunscren. Enjoy!

You already got some really good advice.
When you get to yout first park, stop by Guest Services and pick up a Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. It isn't really, really helpful about boarding rides, but it does tell a bit about each ride. It lists which are quiet and which are turbulaent thrill rides (which wouldn't be good for your back). The rides with health warnings are well marked on the park maps and with signs before you get in line and before you board.
