Getting nervous - last minute marathon questions...

I know they have regular full on running pace groups set up, but are there any unofficial galloway pace groups or meetup locations to find some folks to run with during the half? I am running by myself and typically run galloway method (3:1 intervals at 11-12 min pace), but would love to find a few folks to run with to pass the time. This is my first half and all I care about is finishing...

Thanks!

Honestly, you will find someone to run and char with during the race. There are folks doing a little of everything.

I'm doing my first half marathon at 44 (actually 44 1/2!) and only started running late in my 43rd year. I've lost it and found it all at the same time. :lmao:

Hey...I'm gray, too, so I'll join in. And did my first marathon at 50. ANd am also a proud class member of 1958. But I'm sure no one will confuse me with Coach (except maybe the Delta Flight Attendant on my flight back from Boston who looked at me and the guy next to me and asked "Can I get you gentlemen something to drink?" Jeez, I know I'm flat-chested and have short hair, but really?)

So to all of the 1st time "adult onset" runners/walkers....you will have fun. Believe it or not. Enjoy the experience.

Anyone know if NipGuards will be available for purchase at the expo?

If not I think i'll just pick up some of those small round bandaids to use unless anyone has any other fun suggestions?

The glide only seems to hold up on me for about the first 10 or miles which works out ok with a half, but would leave me screwed on the full. haha!

Thanks!

I used the Band-Aid spot for the Space Coast Half in Nov. Worked so well I forgot they were on and finally removed them 2 days later.:rotfl:

For all you 40 and 50 yo's, it's never too late to start. Last January at the age of 60.5 I walked my 2nd 5K, 2nd Half and First Full. In 2 days I'll be finished with the first race of my 2nd Dopey, only this year I will have almost no gray hair on my head. After breaking my neck in April I found that a buzz cut made hair washing in a neck brace a breeze with the additional benefit of having a bottle of Head & Shoulders most likely lasting the rest of my life since one drop does the job.

Continued thanks for the great tips. As odd as it sounds, a runner here at work told me to use tape and a coin as nip guard. I did that for all of my longer runs (anything over about 10 miles) and it worked great. Band aids may be more convenient, though. :)

Also, because I know you were all on pins and needles, I went to the doctor for my back and he basically said to stop being a baby. My back will be fine, and I just need to run through the pain. This was, of course, after a thorough examination. Just some inflamation. He also said I could use to be a little less-fat, which I'm working on. ;)

Coins could be awfully cold some mornings.:scared1:

As far as your back, he can say you will be fine but remember, he will not be the one suffering if you go too hard.

But if you need to stop and make a phone call, you're set! ;)

take it easy...we'll all get each other through this!

Nip guards are usually in the Track Shack booth. Though a couple bandaids with a quick swipe of runners lube work just the same and a lot less expensive.

Coins???? No way. I don't want lincoln's head imprint there for a day...

:wave2: I variate my intervals (going easy at first, and then doing higher intervals towards the middle, and then back to easy at the end of my runs so that I am not out of breath and finish feeling fabulous) but I'm in the 11-13 pace group doing the Galloway method. :-)
