...and I'm getting SUPER nervous. I can't sit still right now, I'm kinda freaking out. I really want it and have wanted it for years now. It's going to be Tinkerbell sitting on the word "Sassy" in memory of my kitty, Sassy, that died a little over a year ago. I'm really excited to get it, just not about the actual part where a needle is repeatedly going in and out of my skin....

Tell me anything to get me through it. My appointment isn't until 6 tomorrow night so I have allll day, thinking about it. Fortunately I have a work luncheon thing for Christmas (I wasn't going to go, but a coworker basically forced me into going. HAHA) so I will be distracted a bit, but I'm still freaking out. Seriously, though, tell me it will be worth it in the end, it won't hurt at all, ANYTHING so that I can stop being so nervous...PLEASE!!!!

Ok, I don't have one yet. But just wanted to wish you luck and come back and tell about your experience. I am getting one next month for my birthday.

Sorry about your kitty. I lost my pup last year and still having a hard time even though we have a new gigantic pup.

Where are you getting it done? Arm, hip, shoulder, etc.

My first one was on my foot. I honestly thought it was going to be the worst pain I've ever felt in my life, but it wasn't that bad. I remember being disappointed and saying "That's it?!". You'll be fine. Don't take any pain relievers beforehand, though, because they will make you bleed more if you happen to bleed at all.

You'll be fine! Good luck!

Where are you getting the tattoo? Some places hurt, some don't. I got my tattoo on my outer thigh just above my knee and it didn't hurt. It's more of an annoying pain than a hurtful pain. It's really hard to describe. Relax, it won't be as bad as you are thinking it will be.

Yeah, my pain was pretty much just like a cat stratch. A little stingy, but nothing like "I'm going to die call 911" pain. I could feel bone vibration at a few points but that's because my foot is bony.

I will definitely let you know! Post a pic when it's done and all that. HAHA. Sorry about your pup. It's super hard to lose one of your furbabies. Have fun with your new one, though! I got a pup about a month before Sassy died (she's been a handful and a half!) and a cat in August so I'm having fun with them, but it's not the same...

Thanks! I'm getting it done on my right shoulder. I'm such a wimp, though. Some people are telling me "ohmigosh, that's gonna hurt REALLY bad!!" and others are like "It's not as bad as you think". I hope it's the latter. I'm glad you said the pain reliever thing, though. I was trying to figure out how big of a bottle of pills I'm gonna need. HAHA

Thanks everyone! Still can't sit still, but y'all are making it a bit better!

I have 2 medium size tattoos on the center of my upper back and it wasn't a terrible pain. The worst part was when the needle was closest to my actual spine. It was mostly an irritating pain, and the worst part was no worse than a mild stinging pain. I was really nervous too, but it was over fast.

I have three. One on the inside of each lower ankle and another I just added in July on the front of my ankle.

Like others have said, it is more annoying then painful. The outlining can get a little tedious but, they were no big deal at all.

My sisters both have one on their shoulders and they said they didn't bother them either.

You are getting one at a great time of year! Silly me getting one in July when I had to avoid swimming! Even worse for me since we live one mile from the ocean!:headache:

Don't stress and post some pics! :)

When I went to visit friends in West Palm Beach last year over Spring Break they wanted to take me to Miami Ink to get it done. I thought about it but couldn't afford going there at that time. Then last time I was in Miami, I went into Miami Ink to get a price and I thought about it until I went across the street to a place equally as nice and clean that was half as much so I thought about doing it there but then I realized I was in Miami and getting it then meant very little fun for the rest of the trip. HAHA. So we're possibly going to Disney in February and I wanted it before then. Off school now, so I only have to schedule around work so it just worked out as perfect timing.

I have quite a few tattoos (arm, ankles, back, chest) & I've never found it to be a big deal pain-wise, except my chest piece (center part of which is visible in my sig) hurt alot in the middle, probably because the skin is thin with bone right underneath. Unless you watch the tattoo artist autoclave/set up the tattoo gun, you don't really see the needle...it'll just look like s/he's drawing on wherever your tattoo is with a big mechanical pencil that's plugged in :thumbsup2 . It's actually pretty fascinating to watch the tattoo being applied, as you'll mainly just see the ink around the tattoo needle (not a bunch of blood, and hardly ever the needle itsself) until the tattoo artist wipes the area. Then you'll get to see how the design is progressing. After the tattoo is finished, it'll just feel like you've got a sunburn on the area where the tattoo is. This only lasts a couple of days, and is more annoying than painful. Good luck to you, I'm sure it'll go well pirate:

Okay, I am the biggest weenie ever. I got a tattoo on my left shoulder blade area. I survived. The worst part was the tattooing over the bony area. That hurt. A lot. Not the "I'm going to die" pain, but it was definitely enough to make me grit my teeth. It took my tattoo artist a little over an hour to get mine done. I'd get another one though, and plan on it soon! :thumbsup2

I chose to get my tat in a spot that no one else would see, even in my swimsuit or in my undies. Unfortunately, I unknowingly chose one of the most painful spots to get a tattoo.

Let's just say. . .the pain was. . .ahm. Not unbearable, but when it was all over, I tried to faint once or twice. But it definitely was NOT just a stinging or an unpleasantness. I bawled because it HURT!

Still. I don't regret it one bit.

Tattoos look make people look low class, you should reconsider.

I guess judging people by their looks is what "high" class people do? :confused3

I've heard from a few people that is doesn't hurt as much as they had anticipated.

Thank you for telling me my tattoo, the one that is in honor of my battle and a dearest friend's battle (the one she lost) with childhood cancer, makes me look low class. I absolutely, 100% appreciate it. :thumbsup2

Thank you! That was very helpful. I actually kinda got excited to watch but then I realized I wouldn't be able to see since it's on my back. HAHA.

I have reconsidered. Several times. Like I said, I have wanted a tatoo for a loooong time and have wanted this particular one for maybe 4-5 years. I have thought about it long and hard. I am getting it on my shoulder so that I can hide it when I need to and show it off when I want to. My mom does not like tattoos. My dad has one, which he hid from both my mom's family and his family for a good year before he "accidently" left it uncovered one day. They both know I want one and know that I have thought about it a lot. My mom's "rules" for me getting one were:
1. I had to be 18
2. I had to think about it long and hard and KNOW that I really wanted it
3. It had to be in a place that I could cover if I had to
I don't think tattoos make anybody "low class". I think if it is something that you really want and has meaning to you, they are awesome. I think it is the people judging that are "low class". Judge all you want, but the fact that I am doing something that means a lot to me makes me anything but "low class".
