Getting my baby to Disneyland- I need your help!!

Disneymomma81 and ado121- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Actually I have finally solved the problem- found a company that ships stuff to Oz from america.

Not sure if allowed to put on here but here is the link coz I figure that someone else is likely to have the same problem as me at some point!!

www.priceusa.com.au

So hopefully in a couple of weeks I will have my Cosco Scenara !!! Now lets just hope the airline allow it ( they had better be prepared for one angry mama if they don't!!)

Good ~ so what was your cost? I hope it arrives safe and in plenty of time.

Ginny - That is great news!! Hopefully it all goes smoothly and before you know it you will be in Disneyland.

Sure hope they don't still give you grief.

Cheers,
Jules

aaaaah- company originally quoted me $80 for shipping and now say it will be $300 !!!!

There is no way I can afford that so looks like getting a seat from USA is out!!

Am now investigating whether the cosco scenera they sell in New Zealand has the relevant stickers as have found a company there who will ship to me

why does everything have to be soooo difficult !!!

Oh and on a side note- I am sooo over trying to decide on a hotel= I want a 2bed suite with disneyview within walking distance but I dont think it exists ( except HOJos but there kid suites are full)

Good on you for wanting to keep your baby safe on the plane :)

I'm not totally current on what seats are available abroad, but I do know another American seat, the Sunshine Kids Radian is supposed to be released in Oz if it hasn't been already. It's a bit of a pricey seat but may be cheaper than importing one from the US. However, I don't know if it would have the relevent (FAA) stickers down there...

I would strongly suggest checking out the aforementioned car-seat.org website... there are forums for 'other transportation' (ie airplanes) and also 'international issues,' I would probably put it in the other transportation forum and moderators will move it if necessary. There are people there who have been techs far longer than me and have a lot more know-how who may have some good solutions for you. :) Registration there isn't required to ask a question.

i can send you some stickers for yours if you like , mine peel off real easy on the seat we brought back from florida ...;)

OP I commend you for going to these great lengths to keep your baby safe on the plane. I've been a FA for 15 years and most people wont pay the extra money to put their baby in a seat, which baffles my mind because if something happens on the plane a lap baby can fly through the cabin at the speed of a rocket. Most people also don't realize that if you have a lap baby and for some reason your plane has to "prep" for an emergency landing the safest place for your baby is on the floor under the seat in front of you!
Keep in mind that the carseat does not neccesarily have to be American made, it just has to be FAA approved with the sticker on it. Maybe you can try going through another country other than the US? Good luck and dont give up hope!:thumbsup2

Hey all

Hadnt been on the site for a couple of days so sorry for wait in replying- thank you for the offer of stcikers aaronandterry!

I solved the problem- I contacted a company in new zealand who sold the cosco and they confirmed it was FAA approved and had the stickers- shipping was a lot cheaper although the seat was the equivalent of $160 as oppossed to the $60 it sells for in the US !!!

Anyway it was worth it- seat was shipped 4 days ago so I should receive it next week!!

The only annoying part is the worry that the airline won't accept it after going to so much trouble !!!!

Dismom 73- thanks- I thought it was awful that I spent so much money on a seat for my baby and yet I was being forced to put them in a dangerous position.

Lets hope within the next few years that all airlines will have the same regulations and people wont have to spend months doing all this like I have

thanks to everyone who helped- esp the person who told me that they sold the seats in NZ as there is no way I wouldnt have ever known this!!!

I dont travel until Sept but will let you know if I got to use the seat!!!

Nat xx

I'm so glad you sorted it out! I'm sure the seat will be fine if it has the stickers. You could take it to the airport after you get it, and go ahead and douclecheck. That way you won't be waiting until the day you have fly.

All US air carriers have the same policy, it just has to be FAA approved and have the sticker. I think the stragest part of this whole situation is that Austraila doesn't manufacture or sell car seats that are FAA approved. :confused3
I'm glad you got it all figured out, and I'm sure everything will work out just fine. Enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

Hi Nat, hope you had an amazing trip. Just wondering if you could send me the name of the NZ company you used? I'm in the same predicament and it's so frustrating. Many thanks

Hi, Not sure about an answer to this one, we didn't both with the seat, however, have you thought about asking this question on the Australia board someone there may have an answer to you question. I use hopshopgo for shipping, I think they're all pretty similar though, paypal users get a 10% on Australian shipping at the moment.

Hey everyone

thank you so much for all your responses.- you guys are great !!!

I realised that I can also use a UK car seat and as we have family there, I am going to try and get one off ebay and get my rellies to send it to me

Also still investigating the new zealand option too.

Jules- thank you so much for your kind offer- hopefully I can get it sorted!

melbarkwith- glad you liked vaustralia !!!! Not really looking forward to it as we have the baby and also a nearly 3 year old but it will be worth it for the look on their faces when we get to Disneyland !!!!

And I will get over the trauma of the flight with a Monte Cristo !!!!!!:rotfl:

thanks again everyone

Nat

BRITAX is an awesome brand UK...

How big is your child? If he/she is between 22-44 pounds you can use a CARES Harness (Kids Fly Safe) - it is FAA approved and you won't have to lug a carseat across continents. :thumbsup2
