Getting married at WDW -- DVC question

One of my friends wrote me the following ...

I need your Disney skills. We are planning on getting married at Disney World Florida with an UP themed wedding. In order to book the wedding we need to book 4 nights reservation at an on site Disney resort. Got any ideas on how to get this the cheapest way possible?

Can renting DVC points for a stay at a hotel near their wedding site count as the required 4 night reservation?

I do not believe so, because that money does not go to Disney.

No renting DVC points would no5t count. A room at a value resort is there chepest option, unless a campsite at Fort Wilderness counts but I would not want to get ready for my wedding at a campsite.

Make sure it is any resort. I think my friend has to book at least Moderate hotels. No value rooms counted

Not to suggest that your friends cannot afford a Disney wedding but if they are struggling to pay for the 4 nights at the hotel, the required spending just goes up from there. A Disney wedding is extremely expensive, I hope the consultant has laid out all the costs for them and gone over their wedding budget to make realistic choices.

i can not tell you what disney would say, but dvc is different!

Keep in mind...I have no real idea about this...but I thought DVC counted.

I think the rub is rented points as the reservation would technically be with somebody else's points.

It has been ten years since we were married but back in 2003 DVC rooms did count toward the room night requirement. When we got married we were considering purchasing at BWV.

We didn't though as they ran a special that year where you paid for a 4 night package and got 8 nights so we saved alot. But looking back 4 nights in a 2 bedroom villa at BWV at $800+ a night would have made a nice down payment on a membership. Our guide Ricardo Florez was very patient with us though and we purchased less than a year later at SSR to get the extra years.

DVC room nights DO count towards the wedding... at least they did in 2011/2012 when we got married.

HOWEVER, I'm not sure if RENTED points count. I doubt they do.

Yep. Rooms on points don't count. I had a friend go through this recently and her rooms had to be paid in cash to Disney. The villa she got for her parents using DVC did not count towards her spend

I was married in 2010 and the dvc rooms i used my points counted then. We had an escape wedding which was limited to 20 people total.

Maybe certain month of the year have better price than others? Not sure if your friend's wedding date is flexible?

Yes DVC rooms count towards your room block if you have a Wishes Wedding with DFTW's.

I am currently planning our wedding and receiving monthly updates from Disney regarding our room block. All of our nights booked on points are included in the 25 night minimum needed to have a Wishes Wedding.

Owning points, yes... Renting, doubt it. See if a loophole can be found where YOU pay for one-time-use points toward the rental (your friend, I mean).

Sounds like your friend is having an ESCAPE wedding (vs. WISHES). In order for her to reserve her date for her wedding she must have a minimum 4 night stay at any Disney owned resort (NOT Swan, Dolphin, Hilton Bonnet etc.) reserved under her name. It doesn't matter how it is paid for or who pays.
She can rent, buy, borrow or be gifted DVC points, she can stay on cash at rack or on a discount, matters not...they only stipulate Disney owned and request that you check in at least one day prior to your ceremony day. Or at least that is how it was explained to me...
