Someone gave me the web addy of a site that motivates kids to read over the summer. It was called "book adventures" or something like that. Does anyone else recall this? My daughter wanted to look into it this year. Thanks!

Some other ideas -

Barnes & Noble runs a reading program - for every 8 books you read you can turn in the form for a free book.

Also - National Amusements which runs Showcase Cinemas in MA has a Bookworm Bunch - free movies on Wednesday mornings at 10a. Cost to see the movie - a book report and they give out prizes too.

Aurora19- I live in MA. Which theatres are showcase ones? My dd loves to read and has already finished her 1st book for summer reading requirement. She doesn't even get out of school until this Friday.

I believe it's Showcase Cinemas. I looked into this also but I work Tu thru Fri days w/the new summer hrs.
I have already told DS11 that when Im at work and he's home that he will be reading a little ea day. He's starting w/the 3rd Harry Potter. I do send back to school in Sept a list of whatever extra he has read just so the teacher knows.
The school assigned them the book Because of Winn Dixie which I'll have him read in Aug.

Also check into your local library. For the 0-10yrs (besides story hrs) we have a read at home program. The children pledge to read 15mins/day for 5wks of the summer - there will be a party for them middle of Aug.
The Young Adult program has diff guidelines followed by an ice cream party mid Aug. Again DS misses out as that is 1 of his 3 camp weeks.

are located in Dedham, Lawrence, Lowell, Randolph, Revere & Woburn

The movie schedule is as follows:

6/25 The Rugrats Movie (G)
7/2 Antz (PG)
7/9 Stuart Little 2 (PG)
7/16 Hey Arnold the Movie (PG)
7/23 Jonah a VeggieTales Movie (G)
7/30 Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron (G)
8/6 Space Jam (PG)
8/13 The Wild Thornberrys Movie (PG)

Grand Prize pulled at the end of the summer is a year of free movies for one child and a friend plus a subscription to Nickelodeon Magazine

Weekly Grand Prize - 2 movie passes for every child in your child's homeroom/classroom

Also - at the start of every movie they usually handed out a bookmark, candy, magazine or book to every child and they pulled 5 winners who got a prize pack (usually 3 books plus more candy  just what my kids need)

It is a great deal

For those outside of MA - National amusements also runs Multiplex Cinemas (sorry don't know what states)

Thanks Mermaid 02 for the thread and Gina 2000 for the link. My youngest loves to read. She drives us crazy reading everything to us. She was reading an ad paper to my oldest the other day it was quite amuzing. Sh eloves SlyLOck fox which is a cartoon that you have to solve. This site is great and just the thing to keep reading exciting for her over the summer.

Aurora 19, thanks for th B&N tip. I'll call them later to see what they have in my area.
