I'll be taking my 78 y/o mom to WDW Sept 1st-8th (will turn 79 y/o on Sept 9th). I would like to take her over to Universal for one day, just because she has never been and would like to just experience the park while I ride rides. She won't be riding anything, but wants to just look around. She'll have an ECV that we are renting from Apple Scooters. I normally just take the $18.00 Mears shared van over to Universal. Would we be able to do that with her ECV? Do they have shared vans that accommodate an ECV?

I don't know for sure but I would imagine there is some sort of transport for people in your position. You might want to call Mears directly and ask them.

op, i thought your mom canceled out on the trip.

has she changed her mind and back on for UO?

Yes, she changed her mind once again.:rotfl: Thank goodness I did not cancel her flight or ECV. She has arthritis pretty bad and her knees are shot. She needs surgery on both knees, but because she is a really bad diabetic, she is scared to have them done. Her knees were really giving her fits a few weeks ago. She got depressed and said she was afraid of getting down there and being bed ridden and she didn't want to spoil my trip. I told her I didn't want to force her into anything, but felt like getting away would be good for her and I go often enough that I really don't care if we take it slow and easy and wouldn't mind just spending alot of time at the resort relaxing (we'll be at AKL). She said she really wanted to go, but was afraid of spoiling my trip. She made me promise that if she has too much trouble getting around, that I'll leave her at the resort and go on to the parks. I really think she'll feel better just getting away for awhile. She gets depressed alot. The times I've taken her to WDW, she always feels alot better down there. We'll just take it slow and easy this trip. She'll definitely need an ECV for the parks though. I just need to figure out how to get one from WDW to Universal.

why don't you call the concierge desk at the darkside hotel.

they might be able to give you some suggestions.

i'm sure they have worked with many guests that have had situations like you are dealing with.

(i would think some of the mears shuttle vans would have a wc lift.)

i think it was on the transportation forum where you talked about mom changing her mind.

i think that it is so nice she is coming on this trip with you now.
you two will have fun doing this vacation!

op, don't forget to buy the discounted (w/c) park ticket for mom.

We'll be at WDW for the entire Sept 1st-8th trip and just going over to Universal one day (maybe two) for my mom to check it out. She won't ride anything, but will be fine looking around while I ride. This will be her last trip to WDW and she's never been over to Universal and wants to go, just so she can say she's been. We're not staying at a Universal resort, so hadn't thought about contacting them. Thanks again about the info on discounted tickets for her. The Sept trip is just a mom-daughter trip for us girls.

My Oct 27th-Nov 4th trip I'll be staying at WDW for six nights and then Universal (RPR) for two nights with my husband. We are leaning toward getting a rental car for that trip, but may use the town car service you recommended.

Hey, I just realized we're in single digits as of today.

Even though Mom doesn't want to ride anything, definately go on some rides if you want to ride them and take her through the line! Universal's theming in the lines areas is sometimes wonderful and as good as going on the ride! :cloud9:

Thanks! That's what we plan on doing. We are now thinking about just renting a car. With my AP, parking would be free and it might be easier to transport the ECV that way.
