Getting DxDP; 2 mods or a value suite?

We are planning a trip next fall. Hoping for free dining, but going regardless. We are a family of 6. 2 adults, 4 kids (ages at travel - 11, 9, 4, 3). DH refuses to go without DxDP. We do a lot of character/special event meals, so it works out for us.

If there is free dining, are we better off getting a suite at AoA and upgrading 2 levels to the DxDP, or do we get 2 mod rooms and only upgrade one level? When I try to price it out, it appears like the 2 mods at CBR would cost us ~$300 more.

Is there a reason to pick the mods? More room? Better buses? Queens over a table bed?

We are not traveling during free dining, but we were originally.

I would do 2 mods. Get free dining on one and upgrade to DxDD (make sure all of you are listed on this reservation.)

Get a room only discount on the second room.

I think you may even come out a little ahead vs the Value Suite if you do it this way.

the big plus I see to two moderate rooms is that (if you get connecting rooms) you can put the kids in a completely separate room while the adults have a glass of wine and watch a show before bed.

Also, with the Murphy beds, you can have a total of 6 separate beds -- nobody has to share. Nobody cries that their brother is kicking them.

Also, two bathrooms. (Not sure if the suites have a 2nd bathroom.)

You might also look at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. Especially if you will have a car.

I'm intrigued...but I can't fit 6 in a mod, so how could I make sure we are all on the room that we upgrade?

Hmmm... I was thinking that the 3 year old was still eligible as a child in a crib, but I guess maybe that is "under 3."

I guess in your situation I would put 5 of you in one room on the DxDDP, and then I would just pay OOP for the least expensive meals.

I'd look into renting DVC points so you can get a good price on a villa. It's a PITA to get from the mods/value hotels to the deluxe hotels if you want to do a lot of signature dining.

This is a good point if you are using Disney transportation.

We always have a car, which makes it super easy.
