You know we went to Disney for years and years without fast pass!!!
The game has changed. Legacy FP was sort of a "let 20 FP guests in, and then let 50 SB people in" process. Now, FP+ distribution is upwards of 75-80% of ride capacity. So now its "let 75 FP people in, then let 25 SB people in". If you rely on SB lines only, you are in for a world of hurt. Test Track and Soarin' are running 70-90 minutes for SB at 9:30. People didn't used to get FPs for these hours. You didn't need them, and frankly, they didn't exist. When you pulled a FP for Test Track at 9:05, your return time was probably around 9:45. Now, with pre-booking, people are a) actively seeking out these times, and b) being forced to take them due to the inability to get other times as those book full. Go to TT now at 9:20 and you will see streams of people flooding the FP return line. That never happened before. And they just keep coming. And in order to avoid the bad publicity of having FP waits creep too high, those FP people are being given "super priority" over the SB line. The SB line we waited in last week moved about 10 feet every 15 minutes. What looked like a 30 minute line in terms of physical length turned out to be a 75 minute wait of very, very angry people. So no longer can one pretend that things aren't really any different than the good old days. They are. At least for the headliners. Disney is stuffing FP people into the rides beginning the moment the parks open and this never happened before.
