What's the best way to get between Disney and Universal? Family of 4, don't really want to hire a car so thinking either bus or taxi. Approximate cost would be good as well.
For my husband and I we found it most economical to us the Mears transportation shuttle @ $20pp roudtrip. But with a family of four I would definitely say just go with a taxi. Its roughly $40-50 each way depending where you are staying, more convenient, and less time consuimng than the shuttle. The only reason we use the shuttle is because with only 2 people it cuts travel cost in half compareed to the taxi.
Uber! I used them the last week of January several times for trips around Disney. The first trip I took a taxi from Wilderness Lodge to Dolphin. Cost $18.50 plus tip. The next night I used Uber from Polynesian to Dophin. Cost $6.50 plus tip.
I think Uber is changing now due to new laws.... but worth checking out.... for one day, either a shuttle or taxi would be fine, we rented a car from the dolphin where we stayed and returned it the same place, cheapest for the 5 of us, and super easy b/c we were right there....
We've seen a taxi company who have quoted $90 return for 4 of us from Disney carribean resort to universal so that seems the best option then. No stopping off at other hotels as well which is a bonus

We were going to use Uber but I think Orlando is one of the cities attempting to ban it. There were several signs advising against it at the airport. Instead, there was a line of cabs waiting at CBR and one of the bellmen called one around for us. We took the cab from CBR to Universal and it was $28 including tip and it took 20 minutes. I doubt you'd beat that with four people. Using a service like Mears would require you to pay per person, book a specific pick up time, and would make multiple stops. A public bus would take considerably longer.
I used Mears for our recent trip. I purchased park tickets through Dreams Unlimited and it included transportation. I think it came to about $10pp cheaper than arranging everything separately.

Are you going for the day and coming back, or are you moving over? I believe that the inexpensive Mears shuttle is only for day trips, as I've heard they don't allow luggage.
If moving parks entirely, I would rent a car or take a taxi.
Yeah ... from what little I've read, this was the final step to get them approved for a license. Not sure how it all plays out, but I do think the days of looking for a "deal" on Uber over a cab are probably either gone or limited. At least in Orlando.
