Staying at Shades of Green, traveling with someone who will not ride the monorail. We will drive to each park in our personal vehicle. Magic Kingdom is a problem. Is there a way to get to the Contemporary and walk to MK? Can I drive to contemporary? Can someone be dropped off at the Contemporary? I understand MK is a short walk from there. Any advice will be appreciated.

You can take the car to ttc and hop on the boat to mk.
You can drop someone off at the contemporary I believe

You can walk from the Contemporary to MK. As far as parking there, probably not. They are very cautious about non-guests parking there specifically because of the proximity to MK. Same reason there aren't park buses from DTD. Too many people park in the free lots and then use transportation to get to the parks without paying for parking.

What about a bus or boat instead of the monorail? Would that make things any easier? You can park at TTC and take a boat to MK.

Am I missing something? If you have a car, why not just drive to MK and park? What is the reason for parking at the Contemporary?

Can't drive to MK...the parking lot is at TTC and they would have to take a boat OR monorail to get to MK, thus the question. They *could* drive to the TTC, but...

It sounds like they are having trouble getting from the TTC to the MK.

The ferries may work, as they are pretty open and have a minimal roof:

In fact, any of the boats may be worth looking into (from the Poly, GF, or other resorts).

Parking at the Contemporary is forbidden unless you are a guest or have ADRs at one of the restaurants (you'll get a parking pass with an expiration time on it). This is due to the high volume of people that would like to park close (and for free).

You could have someone drop you off at the Contemporary, but the ferry may be a solid option.

P.S. You know, I never thought of this before, but if you had a bike, you could probably ride to the Contemporary from the TTC...

You can park at the Contemporary, simply pay for valet parking ($12 plus tips).
You can then walk to MK a tad more than 1/2 mile to the turnstiles.

I like the valet idea.
Also, the boats may work. How long is the boat ride? Would I do better walking to the Poly and catching the boat there. We are staying at Shades of Green which I believe is across the street from the Poly. Would that be a good choice and maybe a short ride by boat? Thanks to all who responded. What a dilema!

Yes you can get a boat from the Poly to the MK but while yes the entrance to Shades of Green is across the street from the Poly. It has a long driveway that I believe has no sidewalks.

Generally, the boats take the same amount of time as the monorail. You could certainly walk to the Poly and use their boat service. I think the GF has boat service, as well.

The boats to/from the Poly/GF are like this:

Of course, you could also walk to the TTC, which is on the opposite side of the Poly, but that would be a bit of a hike in the warmer months.

When are you going? If you posted your dilemma on the DVC board, someone who is going at the same time may be willing to provide you with a parking pass, as if you were a guest of theirs.

Oh, and another option may be to call WDW guest relations (or ask at the TTC). I'm sure Disney has a way to get people to the park with all sorts of concerns. They may have a solution that isn't well publicized.

And then you'd still have to walk through the Polynesian parking lot and a good part of the main building, or around it, and out to the dock. It just seems more time-effective to drive to the TTC and take the ferry. The OP can see how big and open it is; it makes a lot more sense than the smaller, potentially crowded launches.

While skelooch is right about being able to pay for valet parking and leave the car at the Contemporary all day, this doesn't make a lot of financial sense . The OP already has to pay to park at Shades of Green, but gets to park free in the WDW park lots.

Its .61 miles from the front desk of SoG to the dock at the Poly.

.81 miles to the ferry dock and the TTC.

I have been a member of this board for 12 years.

I have read hundreds of post over the years about parking and have kept quiet but I cannot take it ANYMORE!!!!

if you are visiting the Magic Kingdom, you DO NOT park at the Ticket & Transportation Center.

You park at the Magic Kingdom parking lot.

It may be a mile away from the entrance to the Magic Kingdom but it is still the Magic Kingdom parking lot.

The TTC is located at the Magic Kingdom parking lot.

I feel better now.

The TTC parking lot IS the Magic Kingdom parking lot. One and the same. However, you are not parking AT the Magic Kingdom, like one of the previous posters said. And what I said, "the parking lot is AT TTC" is not the same as saying "the parking lot IS the TTC lot.

I haven't stayed at SoG myself but after talking to family and friends who have stayed there, my understanding is that there is a path from SoG to Poly. You will still probably save time parking at the TTC or using the valet at the Contemporary, but if you don't mind the walk, you could catch a boat from Poly and save a little money.

To get to the ceremonial house from SoG, the OP will take a walking path to the street, then walk in the front drive area. It isn't a long walk between the two. The path is mainly along the magnolia golf course, if I remember correctly.

Usually when visiting WDW, we'd take a bus to MK, monorail or boat to the Poly, then walk to SoG for tickets. Sounds like a bit, but the walk is the fastest part.

ETA: If I had the choice, I would prefer to leave my car and walk to MK as much as possible, but this is a personal preference.

Smart choice in not taking the monorail. When we were there in November we got stuck on it in mid air. I tend to get anxious in situations like that and I felt very nervous being stuck really high in mid-air. We also were in it when it was very crowded and the doors would take forever to open when you pulled into the station. From now on, I will only take the boat, as the monorail made me feel anxious from those experiences.
