Getting around the fort

I am new here and am in the process of planning our first trip to FW this fall. One question that I have is how bad is the internal bus system? Is is really difficult to get around the Fort, or not so bad? We will have 4 small kids ranging in age from 3 months to 4 1/2 years on this trip, along with 2 double strollers. We just have a popup and are staying in a partial hookup, are these 2 loops close enough to walk to the pool, campfire, etc? We will probably only use disney transportation to Magic Kingdom, otherwise we will just drive the minivan to the parks. I am just wondering if there is going to be too much walking for the kids at the campground, and if we should consider getting a golf cart for the week, or if that is a waste of money. None of the kids are really good on a bike yet, but would bringing an adult bike with a bike trailer be helpful? Just trying to get an idea so we can budget for a cart if we need to. Thanks!

Hello, I am suprised no one has responded to your thread yet so I will take a stab. We have 3 kids, 2 to 6 years in age, but none are good enough on a bike to use as a mode of transportation either.
I think the real issue is time. The transportation system can get you where you want to go but your going to spend some time waiting for the busses and you have to walk to the bus stop from your site.
We personally rent a cart. There are some really great prices from off site companies if the FW price is too steep, which it is for everyone I know! We use it to go to the dock, Pioneer hall, trading posts, laundry, pool, the office at the outpost and alot of other places as well. Like you, we drive our truck to EPCOT, AK and DHS and take the boat to MK. It is alot quicker and its sittting right beside our TT!
Now when the kids get bigger I think we will bike to save money but for now the cart is the way to go for us!

I have always found the buses to be a perfectly reasonable way to get around. The internal buses run every 10 minutes or so, and are usually right at the entrance to your loop (i.e. not far). The buses to the parks come just as frequently to the Fort as they do to others resorts, so if you are used to that you know what it'll be like at the Fort. I find it to be perfectly workable. The only park you don't take a bus to is MK, the boat is far better.

You may want to request loop 1500, it is closer to the main pool area, campfire etc.

If you can afford the cart then get the cart. I did FW with out a cart many times. Then I bought a cart and took it with us. Now I could not imagine not having the cart at FW. It just opens the fort up and gives you more freedom to explore. With out the cart we really just went to the parks and then to our site. Now with the cart we go every where. I even bought a second cart to bring with us for my parents to use. We can't forget looping riding through the campgrounds looking at all the campsites is a blast.
