Getting around DW?

Hi everyone!

We are driving to DW in early July. This will be our first time at DW. I really have no idea how to get around there. I know that you have to take their transportation to the parks...but I am wondering if any of the parks are close enough that you could actually walk for inline skate? We are staying at the All Star Music Resort and I am wondering if I can get to any parks around this resort by foot or skate. Just wanting to try and find a more convenient way than to have to wait for park transportation. If anyone can give me some advice/info I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! :)

Hi and welcome. I don't think any of the parks are close enough for you to inline skate to. Maybe if you were at the yacht or beach clubs. I would be interested to know if they allow in line skating. Does anyone know?

You can either drive your car or take the buses from the all stars to the parks. You can park free as a resort guest, but my family usually takes the bus. That way you can bypass the ttc at the MK and go right up to the gate area. Good luck!

I think you will be surprised at how large and spread out the WDW property is. From All Stars it will take you a long, long time to walk to the parks, except maybe AK which is the closest. And blading is not allowed.

An odd thing about the Disney roadways is that for the most part there are no sidewalks and no shoulders. Just curbs and grass. The roads are wide and well maintained, which means they move a lot of traffic in a hurry. Combine this with the fact that many of the motorists are tourists trying to concentrate on a map or the roadsigns instead of the traffic around them. IMHO anyone out there on foot or a bike or whatever is just plain crazy!

And besides, All Stars has great bus service. By the time you bladed to a park you could have been there six times by bus. :)

WDW encompasses 43 square miles! (or so I've heard). There are no bicycles allowed on the roads between resorts and parks, so I assume that also means no skating either.

The All Stars are a little out of the way from the parks, so you will definitely need WDW transportation. But don't worry - it's part of the fun! :D

Pickup a property map when you check-in. Here's a copy of it:

It's actually very easy to get around, even I didn't get lost (and I'm bad with directions!). There are 4 main roads - World Drive, Buena Vista, Bonnet Creek & Vista Blvd. They form a square. Once you learn those, you'll find your way around easy. We prefer to drive to the parks rather than use crowded busses.
