Getting annoyed with the people who "just don't get it"!

My DH doesn't get it and likes to say that Disney is just an evil corporate machine after our money. Although I think he likes to wind me up about it as much as anything. He did say yesterday that when he is actually there he does get the magic.

I have to agree fully. My parents are Vegas Freaks. My mom always says she needs her Vegas fix. What is funny is that she doesn't gamble all that much. Dad will play but mostly they go for what they call "atmosphere".
They like eating at the restaraunts and shopping on the Strip.

But when We took the kids to Disney this past April, their grandparents called everyday to get a trip report and looked online everyday to see our latest photopass pictures.

All people are different. Personally I think Disney has a lot more to offer than Vegas. I would rather spend to see my kids eyes light up at mickey or a princess than be bored while I gamble, or worse have to stay at home.

Disney is best viewd through a child's eyes; but when you are lacking a child a child at heart is the best possible substitute. You will never change the opinion of a naysayer, but then again, that is why they are naysayers. They cannot stand people having fun in a way they could not possibly understand.
Be unabashed at your love of the magic. Without measured doses of magic how can we face the real world?

We get it all the time too. First my my MIL, then my Mom(she has never been so she has no idea, I wish I could afford to take my parents with us) and my BIL. When we told then we were going again in December they all said "AGAIN???" We were like "yes AGAIN!" I told my Sister that if I knew I could get a job in WDW I would pack up and move to Orlando in a heartbeat. She just laughed. My good friend who I work with is in WDW right now. She just got married there in May. The went on a Disney cruise for there honeymoon. They need to be on this board with us, LOL. They are going with us again this year to MVMCP. I think they are the only ones who truly "GET IT". Just ignore everyone else and have fun! Maybe they are jealous. :flower:

I don't think they are jealous, they just think it is frivilous. Most people think that anything besides the basic necessities of life that they personally don't find appealing is a waste of money and frivilous. Plus, it is socially acceptable to bash disney lovers, or they wouldn't laugh right in our faces!!! WDW IS a basic necessity for me and alot of others it seems! Have a great time. :flower:

as i sit here munching on my dinner of Ohana Honey Coriander chicken wings and honey lime salad dressing(..obsessed? nah.. :))

i so have to respectfully disagree with the above ..our best trip was the last one and totally without anyone under 49. it's different but not any less special minus the kids along

that is one reason i think some think wdw is crazy..."it's only for kids" ," it's too expensive" ( yeah when you buy a one day pass and go to one park a yr and pay full prices for everything). Disney is a corporation out to get our money but at least it's fun giving it to them, not so fun giving it to shell oil, or the grocery store or everyone else :teeth:

Last week at lunch, someone asked me how long until we leave; then they got on the topic of WDW. The woman sitting beside me said that she'd never go back and that people were just ridiculous acting down there. :earseek: To say the least, she won't make my Christmas list this year! :earboy2:

I have never been to WDW and now I'm gonna make sure I have even more of a good time (if that is possible). Can't wait, just 6 more days!! :cool1:

maybe she read the most shocking thing thread.. did she elaborate? such an odd comment..guess the bag lady i saw drinking hootch out of the brown paper bag in a big city once is much more "normal" than walking around wdw :rotfl:

If people don't get it, then it's shorter lines for the rest of us. :sunny:

I suspect most people who don't get it have not been there lately, if at all.

It is so good to know that there are others out there!! I get so tired of trying to defend myself and the fact that I LOVE going to WDW!! It has gotten to the point that I just tell the people I work with that I am going on vacation. When they ask where I just tell them that we are going "home". They think we are going to Texas. Little do they know that my real "home" is much closer and much more fun to visit! LOL!! It really makes it easier to know that there are others out there that have the same issues that I do!!

Today after I told my friend I've scaled down the honeymoon so I can do a week in Disney as well she said "you go there too much!!" Is there such a thing???? I THINK NOT!!! :)

I totally understand. Why is it they only "get it" when they need help trying to make their reservation and get the best deal ? Then you are their best friend. :p

Different strokes for different folks.

Remember this thread the next time one of you co-workers goes to her 48th Neil Diamond concert or something. ;0)

Hi,

My brother gets it. My sister has never been. My coworkers are either jealous or just don't get it. One of them suggests a trip to Italy. This trip to WDW, my fifth in as many years, will be my only trip anywhere this year.

I'm so glad that I have the various Disney fan boards on which to share my obsession. Thanks, everyone!

Jim

Last night I was talking to my parents. They were asking our plans for Dec. because my aunt and uncle, who have a condo in Ft. Meyer's, are looking forward to getting back. I mentioned how we couldn't wait until we go back to FL for WDW and that's not until June! Then they both asked why we want to go back? They were with us when we went in 2004, why would they ask that? :confused3 I said, You could go with us again, then my mom said they were still trying to pay off their last trip. So, I think that's the reason, they don't think we should be spending money to go back. We figure, hey, it's our vacation, we'd rather spend it at WDW! Then I showed her how it will be cheaper for us this time. She still rolled her eyes. Oh Well, we'll still have a great time.

It is our HAPPY HAPPY place. We waited until our DS turned 4 to go for his first time at Disney this past April. It was wonderful. No excuses now ..he is out of diapers, can stand in line and actually remembers(another argument from non-believers) So we are trying to go next year at the end of May. But a little more quiet about it this time. Wait until those relatives find out. I am sensitive to those families with 3 or more children who can't even afford to go to the local amusement park in the summer. So I try not to discuss the topic around those families.

It really doesn't bother me at all. There is nothing to say or do to convince so why bother. That's why I love the Dis. I see the joy of people who get it and I enjoy it with them!!! :grouphug:
