I was basically ripped to shreds this week on another messageboard I post on. Someone mentioned that they don't get why adults wear any kind of Disney clothing, and from there it turned into a "make fun of adults who go to Disney parks" fest. I stood up for myself, but that didn't stop them. One of the women doing much of the ridiculing was my "friend" in real life, or so I thought. They couldn't understand why people would take their kids there EVERY YEAR, or even worse - people who go TWICE in one year (like me and DH)! Oh, the HORROR! I bet they don't even know that many people choose to get married at Disney. I think their heads would have spun.
When I was young, my grandfather would take us kids to Disney every summer. He would ask us where we wanted to go, and we would ALWAYS say "Disney!!" He once planned to take us to the Caribbean, and we asked if we could go to Disney instead.

We're that bad. LOL!
I mentioned to my aunt that we were going to DW again in February, since the parks were so crowded on our honeymoon. She said, "You know there ARE other places to vacation other than DW!" I just replied that we enjoy all the things to do, especially the wonderful dining options. She said, "Well, I was only there the one time I met you kids there." I asked her what she really knew about all the things to do at Disney... basically, she only knew of MK, Epcot, and MGM. She didn't even know that AK was there! She also would never pay the money we do for dining. When we vacation, we like to dine well. She'd be at McDonald's every day. She's never been to a Disney restaurant, so she has no idea how wonderful most of the food is and how great the theming is.
At work, they used to laugh when they asked where we were honeymooning. However, now that they see how much I know about Disney, they ask ME to help them plan vacations for their families! I often get this question: "We're thinking of taking the kids in July, where should we stay?" Then when I ask them if they can go in a slower season and explain crowds and show them about Disboards.... well, they seem to appreciate me more.
In the end, it's not what other people think of us. It's what we enjoy, it's what we love, it's what we CHOOSE to do. I'm sad for those who will never get butterflies in their tummy when they walk into the MK and see the castle. I pity those who will never feel Disney Magic. I feel sorry for those who will never experience service on a Disney level.
