OK--DH and I closed on our DVC resale in early December. Deed was recorded in late December. We got our new membership cards (as well as our very first dues invoice) in Mid-January. We are STILL waiting to receive our welcome membership packet that has all of the information regarding how to use our points. I have called THREE TIMES in the past 6 weeks and have been told each time "I dont understand why you havent received it yet---we will make sure it goes out right away". Now--it would be really nice to have the specific details re: banking and borrowing as well as points charts etc (as well as my nice new DVC tote bag...). Indeed--DH and I have already booked a vacation for May with our points just by utilizing info from various websites. I would just be more comfortable with the official stuff from Disney. The funniest thing was the one customer service rep I spoke with indicated the packet would contain our "temporary membership cards". I laughed and said--well we already received the permanent ones!!!!! so how long do I wait before I call AGAIN?????

You're lucky that you received anything. We closed on a resale in October and the only things we have received were our dues statement (we want money from you) and information to buy points at the new Beach club DVC villas (we want more money). We have been owners at OKW since 1993, so we know all about points, borrowing, etc.
Each time we call to ask about it, we are told that they sent our cards out and they will send another set. Each time, they say the cards should arrive in 4-6 weeks, so we wait that long and then call again.

This must be very frustrating for you.

Not to excuse them, but I believe DVC uses third parties to handle their mailings, and the boards are filled with stories of how they have messed things up in the past: The famous Mickey Pins, 10th anniversary cruise notice, some people have never received their new member handbook, etc, etc.

I would keep hounding them to just send you a member guidebook, forget about a welcome package (I think the only thing it had in it for us was a cover letter and the temporary cards).

And, don't hold your breath waiting for the tote bag. We, as well as many other resale purchasers, got zip in terms of promo items. Sorry.

While you are waiting to get your membership information in the mail, why don't you use the DVC Web site. You need the username and password which you can get by calling member services or in the Vacation Magic newsletter, if you have received that yet.

The points are listed there as well as a sectionon "Understanding Your Membership".

I have used the DVC website (and I did have to call to get the username/password--which funny enough--the rep said--"it is listed on the back of your member guidebook"--to which I replied--I havent received it yet!!LOL!)

Anyway--being the overly organized "type a" person that i am I just want that "Hard Copy" of the info to put into my DVC file. Oh--and the last couple of times I checked the DVC points calculator on the official DVC website was not operational!

Try emailing MS, you might get a quicker response that way. After never receiving the 9-11 pins or the guide book, my sister finally received both after emailing MS. She still hasn't ever received the DVC beach bag and she bought directly through Disney!

Didi you get your resale directly from Disney or from another source ?? If not directly from Disney I'm not sure how much you will receive as a welcome.

Disney does not sell resales directly, all are through other parties.

here is what happened to me - I didn't get my new membership book when others here did - so I called Ms and they say they would immediately send it to me - still nothing for about 3 weeks - then guess what I got both the same day - lucky the postperson (we have a lady) was still there and she says that for this DVC uses when time allows (?) - so yes it could be at your post office waiting for time to be delivered.

I think you'll find all the information you need is available for download from the member website. Once you get your password and log in, you'll be pleased with the available info and explanations for using points, point guides for different resorts, etc.

Good luck.
