Getting a new pup tomorrow!!!

As some of you might remember, we had our older Sheltie put to sleep about a month ago. We still have a 3 year old, but the house has been too quiet. We always "stalked" the Sheltie Rescue website, but we are ready to adopt. We had our interview tonight and were approved. We get to bring her home tomorrow night. She is gorgeous! I always say that if I ever get a dog, I'm going to adopt an older one.

She is beautiful! I admit I don't know much about the breed but I noticed the web site advised against this breed for families with toddlers. I thought they were gentle dogs. Am I incorrect?

They are herders, so they can herd your small children (which I suppose could include nipping, but in my experience included barking!). Our first Sheltie was 1 when I had my son, and he was always very sweet with him. Our younger one, Cosmo, is super sweet, too. I couldn't imagine him not liking a toddler. There was a spot on the application that asked if I knew they weren't good with toddler- I said that wasn't my experience, but i would always use caution when placing a toddler and dog together.

I thought Hayden was a real cutie, and of course the puppies were adorable, too. It seems they place a lot of Shelties, even older ones, so I hope sissy gets a home. She has a unique look, and not just because of her haircut!

Dh would look at the site, and I always said, "We CANNOT get a third Sheltie!" But, now that we're down to one, I've been looking and just fell in love with Sally. I think she'll be a good fit with our family.

Aww...she looks so cute! I pet sit for two Sheltie puppies and they are the sweetest dogs. They bark a lot though. Any advice on the barking? Like how to stop it? They are almost one now and they bark at birds, people, cars, airplanes, thunder....just about anything!!!
