Took me awhile, but my DH has agreed to add another cat to our household. We know that we want a kitten so it will be more likely to adapt to our household, but it doesn't have to be a tiny kitten.

Two cats under the most serious consideration are a beautiful white tabby. He will be about 4 months old when he comes up for adoption (needs his shots first). He's been in a foster with other cats and children, but no dog (we have dogs), but being young he would probably adapt well to the dogs. I have no doubt that he will be adopted quickly by someone due to his striking good looks. I don't have a picture that I can post of him.

The other kitten is about 6 months old and is in a foster with cats and a dog (I don't think children). The foster mom told me that she is a nice kitten and people like her when they come visit, but haven't chosen her because most people want a younger kitten. I would say that she's the most beautiful cat, even though everyone has their opinion about what makes a beautiful cat. Here is her link--her name is Gigi. http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?ac...5b5d-app4&display=&preview=&row=0&tmpl=&stat=

In my opinion, looks are nice, but the most important thing is the personality of the cat. I also want a cat who will be comfortable in our very active household (kids in and out of the house, other cats and dogs, etc).

I haven't met either of these cats yet. I don't want to meet Gigi, have that meeting go well, and then choose not to take her. Does that make sense?

My thinking is that Gigi is not as likely to be chosen by someone else and the older she gets, the harder it will be to place her.

And don't say both cats! My DH has not agreed to that and if I were to get 2 cats I would either get the white tabby and his littermate or I'd get Gigi and another older kitten. Maybe Dennis http://www.pet-4-pets.rescuegroups.com/animals/detail.php?AnimalID=8598 , if he's still available. But, my DH has agreed to one cat.

So, HELP!

And the one my DD wants (she's in college so doesn't really get a vote) is http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?ac...1c-app3&display=&preview=1&row=50&tmpl=&stat=

They both sound great - but Gigi reminds me of my Chester! He's alot more white, but she still resembles him as a kitten.

Whichever you choose, it will be a good choice, there are NO bad cats IMHO. :goodvibes

I vote for Gigi for 2 reasons. First of all, I'm a sucker for a black-and-white cat :goodvibes Second, as much as it pains me, I'll never have a male cat again. Ours has had MANY urinary-tract blockages (common in males), and I worry about and monitor him constantly. We don't vacation without him because of this, so you can imagine how restrictive that becomes. For us, it's going to be females all the way after this.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting either kitten covered with pet health insurance as soon as you adopt them. I wish that I'd covered our guy when he was a kitten. 10 years of vet bills for this condition have gotten $$, and they won't cover him because he has a "preexisting condition". Our female is covered by VPI.

Aw shucks, my answer was take both cats, but I see that isn't an option.

I don't know, I'd have a hard time deciding, but I AM partial to black and white kitties!

Good luck with your decision! :)

I wish that I could figure out how to post the picture of the white tiger. CAn anyone tell me how to do a one time posting. I know how to get to the properties of the picture, but don't know what to do after that.

I am also a total sucker for a black and white kitten. She is adorable! I'm sure the other one is also gorgeous, so I guess I am no help at all. Both cats would have been my answer too :flower: .

I would forget what they look like on the screen and go visit them. With all of my cats, I knew the second they were in my arms that they were meant to be mine. The comment i get most often about my cats is how they are so friendly and not aloof like cats "normally" are. I guess this comes from good socialization and picking them because of their personality and not looks (although I think my cats are pretty darn cute too!)

Definitely go by personality, but Gigi is an adorable angel. If they all had equally sweet personalities, she would be my first choice if I were you.

get a dog instead

LOL have 2 of those. Two dogs are enough for me! I like them both, but if I had to choose I'd choose cats anyday.

Well, we decided to stop at Petsmart today (my DH's idea) and are the proud parents of 2 kitties, neither of them cats from my original post! It was my DH's idea to get two (he would have been willing to get 3!!!).

I'll try to figure out how to post pictures.
