Getting a Cat 1 or 2 w/o Land & Sea

Has anyone been able to get a Cat 1 or 2 without booking a Land & Sea package?

DH and I are taking my Dad and brother on a 4-day Wonder cruise, and I wanted to book a Cat 2. Unfortunately, I can't book a Cat 2 because I am not booking a Land & Sea package.

So, I booked a Cat 3, with an adjoining Cat 4.

I was told that I could try for a Cat 2 one month from our sail date. Has anyone tried this at 30-days out and been successful?

A note of clarification for the others... this is only true for the 3-night and 4-night cruises. The 1's and 2's for the 7-night cruises can be booked as soon as ressies open up for those dates.

I'd be curious to know the answer to DVCinderella's question as well... has anyone booked a 1 or 2 on the 3-night or 4-night cruises when they've opened up to open booking 30 days out?

I have not done it personally but I do know of folks who were waitlisted for a Cat. 1 or 2 on the 3/4-night cruises and got what they wanted after they were opened up at the 30-day mark.

What I would do would be to fax a letter to the DCL Inventory Control Dept (407-566-7739) stating that you are currently booked, giving them your ressie number(s) and requesting a Cat. 2. This might help. Good luck.
