Get rid of all carry ons

Since I am travelling with a 1yo, I would consider a diaper bag a necessity, not a want.

This is not a comment by a know it all.... I am really just asking a honest question .

Why do we have to figure out how to make the airlines safe? Hasn't this been done already in countries with terrorism problems already? Does the UK allow carry-ons? Is what these other countries do enough? Why does America seem to think we will do airline security better than everyone else even though we just now got to the point we were serious about it - as a country?

Yes, the UK allows carryons. 1 per pax. We should be following the examples of El Al. They have never had a terrorist incident on one of their planes. And yes, they allow one carry-on per passenger.

Thanks to those of you who make my point by coming up with your little excuses ubout needing this and that. Some Americans are getting so self-absorbed and selfish that their wants override all others' safety.

You sir are an idiot. Is your saftey hampered by a diaper bag? I am sure you think people can smuggle things in it.

I fail to see why you are letting someone whose screen name is M. Eisner upset you when it comes to carry ons. Surely Mr. Eisner flys the corporate jet and does not have to worry about these issues.

If my very old memory serves me right...In the 1960's and 1970's (before husband and kids when I had money to travel!) there were no carry on's in the overhead compartments. If it didn't fit under the seat in front of you - it didn't come on the plane. It was considered dangerous to put heavy items up top. Does anyone else remember that?

M. Eisner - in regards to your post about some Americans getting so self-absorbed & selfish that their wants override all others' safety and having little excuses about needing this & that. I would definitely need to have a carry-on bag, however it would not be large. My son needs to have all his diabetic supplies with him and I would NEVER put them into checked luggage. If his syringes and insulin were lost, he could die. These items are definitely needed in fact they keep him alive. Whenever traveling, they are with me in a carryon. I would never pack these in regular luggage. In this regard I am definitely being selfish but not self-absorbed. You shouldn't make comments without knowing the whole story behind carryons. ?
